Newbie Question (3100RL)

I have a question about a 2012 Montana 3100RL that I purchased last week. This is my first fiver and I am surprised to find that there is no propane tank monitor inside this coach. In the motorhomes I’ve owned in the past there was always a way to check the propane supply without going outside. Am I missing something here? Thanks.

Towables and motorhomes have different types of tanks. Apples/oranges!

Your motor home tanks could not be removed and so they had monitors. You can add monitors on removable tanks, but they don't work all that well and you have to remove wires to fill the tanks.

I use these to then monitor the levels on my phone.

Chris-- do they really work that well? Do you put them on the bottom of the tank or on the sides? You can PM me if you like to answer these questions.

Love my tank check - 50ft monitoring is maybe a stretch but not knowing was more of a challenge.

Likewise.I love these tank monitors.I use the dedicated monitors and my phone also. I have had only one problem and that was that after being installed on the tank bottom for an extended time they tend to stick to the tank. Care should be taken when removing them or the sensors will pull out of the plastic housing. Found this out the hard way then bought a second set and take more precautions when removing them from the bottom of the tank

I broke one of my sensors, and called AP Products. They sent me a new one, a monitor, and new metal spacers.

To the original question, your propane shutoff which should be in the compartment with the offdoor tank, should have a red/green indicator to indicate when the tank being drawn is empty. Then turn the indicator to the other tank. That gives you a 1 tank buffer to fill the empty one.

I'm assuming the switching valve will automatically switch to the full tank and moving the lever only operates the indicator?

Yes. If you have the indicator on the passenger tank and the passenger tank runs out, it will switch to the driver's tank automatically if the driver's tank valve is open. You just have to frequently check the indicator during use like once a day, especially when they should be getting low.

I'm not sure if turning the indicator to the middle will shut off the flow or not. I always shut off the tank I'm not using first and then the tank being used last. And when I turn it back on I turn on the tank being used first and after some use, then the other tank on.

Just pour a cup of hot water down the side of the tank and look at the condensation. You still have to go outside but its FREE.
