Awning Hook

It was VERY windy the entire weekend and it was really blowing that awning "hook" around on the side of the Monty. Have any of you ever came up with an idea on how to keep that thing from banging the side of your unit? I tried to sort of tuck it under the awning but that didn't work either. Just wondered if anyone else has a "fix" for this.

Awning hook? are you talking about the strap you pull the awning down with, or the rod that has the hook to grab the strap, for the rod I put it in the arms brackets, the strap I wrap it around the bracket or remove it,

Don,

Yeah, the strap, you can't believe the amount of racket that bad boy will make in the wind! Any thoughts?

Just slide it out of the tube and store it.

When the awning is fully extended, the strap should simply slide our the end of the slot it is in for easy removal.

If you are talking about the strap, you can either remove it or roll it up and contain it with a paper clip or any kind of retainer. Camping World used to sell a little red plastic device that rolled up the strap and hook it down. We lost ours and I haven't seeen them lately. Depending on your unit and awning, you might have to remove the strap by rolling the awning up a 1/2 inch or so. We do on this unit but never had to before on other units. Our other 5ers, we could remove the strap from either end, on Monty we can only remove it from one end.
Happy trails........................

I think Mac's talking about when the awning's rolled up. On our previous TT, I tied a handkerchief around it - quieted it down quite a bit.

VanMan,

Yes that's it exactly, the wind was so bad that if I had the awning up, even with tiedowns, it would have been like a kite. A handkerchief, that sounds like the best suggestion so far.

I do know what you mean. That thing can knock against the side of the Montana all night long and keep you awake. I like the handkerchief idea and will try that the next time we are camping in a windy area.

Had the same problem at the ocean awhile back. I took the awning rod and tucked the small loop into the roll. It took a couple of trys but I finally found a way to keep it tucked. I noticed some black marks where it had been hitting the side of the trailer when it was flopping around. It must be the hard rubber sewn into the loop to keep it open and easier to hook with the rod. I suppose you could remove the rubber part and that would quiet it down some. Might be harder to catch it with the hook though.
Let me know if you find a good solution.

I just put a piece of velcro on it and stuck it to the side of the trailer. Seems to even hold driving down the road.

When you roll up the awning, let the strap roll up on a slight angle. It will take practice, but you find it rolls up inside tighter so it won't hang out so far & make noise in the wind.
