50 versus 30 amp cost?

Lately we have been running into extra cost if we use 50 amp. Don't understand why since we pay for actual electrical meter usage? Since we only travel during winter it has not been necessary to use the A/C. But we have noticed that we can run the A/C on 30 amp, but not the microwave at the same time. So we adjust. So my question is why are the campgrounds charging more for 50 amp?

Those that don't charge extra for electric quite often charge extra for 50 AMP service. I have never heard of a campground charging for 50 AMP when the camper pays for the actual electricity used. I would definitely have second thoughts about staying in any such campground.

My seasonal site runs $585 a month, and that includes all the water, electric, sewer and garbage. The old campground I was at ran me $300 a month, but the owners decided to close the campground. The $585 covers everything, no hidden costs.

It sounds like that campground either is ignorant about electricity or they discovered they can expand the "more for 50 amp" charge and increase the bottom line. As noted, it is not unusual to pay more for 50 amp service when electricity is included in the rate but I have never before heard of paying more when paying for metered usage.

The only other thing I can think of is they recently added 50-amp service and maybe are trying to recoup their upgrade costs this way. I still would balk at that charge.
