Replacing bathroom lockset.

This has been done by a lot of people but the last time I tried to do this, the door knob I bought would not fit because it only had the 1 3/4 " backset. You need a door knob that has a 1 3/8 " backset and some like this one I bought today is adjustable for both sizes.
It is the Basics privacy set by Weiser Lock part # 70-006970-001

It is a real easy switch, I only had to file the hole in the door edge a little bigger for the latch assembly to side in. I was able to use the old striker plate.

Several people have been locked in the biffy room when the cheapo OEM set fails. I only paid 12 bucks for this thing, 10 year guarantee and now we have a lockable door that hopefully will not break and lock some one in.

Hey, Don, Maybe I better take a sandwich in along with my newspaper, in case I get locked in!
Sue said we better buy a fire axe. She never comes within 25' of me when I'm in there, so I don't lock it.
I'm printing your post on this for our files in case we do need to change it out.
Do you have the information on the Microwave latch? I forgot where to ask for a new one.
Thanks, ozz

We preformed that preventative fix within the first two weeks we had the camper. I did not wantto be on the inside yelling out...

Okay I've said this before and I'll say it again. In 2005 Keystone changed the hardware on the Montana. I know this because we were debating between a 2004 3295 and the 2005 3400. I went back and forth a zillion times between the units to compare. The door knobs that are breaking are on the units before 2005 so the ones afterwards should also be the new hardware.

Well, I guess I missed the post about the improved hardware. The one I took out looks pretty well made but our kids did want us to get a lockset so I had a second reason to change out that set.

In the mean time, any body want a door handle off an 06 Montana Biffy room , they can have it for free.

Don,
I can see the need for a lock on the biffy room if you have others with you or a lot of visitors. There is just the two of us so if you can't find the other person, you guess they are in there. Ed usually closes the sliding door when he goes up there so I know he is there.

Thanks Sue, I am happy to hear that Keystone replaced the problematic door set with a good quality one. I agree a door lock is not necessary for most couples but some people like a lock.

Take care, and have a great day.

Our daughter did get stuck in ours two years ago. I did replace the lock....after damaging the door to get her out, but I just bought a regular cheap door handle from lowes(no special size)and haven't had a problem since. As you can see....ours is a 2004.

Sue--glad to hear that the bathroom locks that were breaking were the old, pre-2005 models. But what about the reports of the locks breaking on the outside doors--are the ones breaking also the old, pre-2005 models, or is there still a problem with the locks on the outside doors? And if so, just what parts should one replace on a preventative basis so we don';t have to try to climb thru the windows to get in or out?

David, I don't know. I would have to go back and look at the ones that have broken. We have had no problems with ours in the 2 years we have had our unit other than the lock cylinder came out when Ed opened it with the wrong key. User error on that one. The only change I noticed was the interior hardware. Might be a good thing to compare at a rally.
Happy trails........................

Glad there's a laundry trap door to the basement. I'm too old to go climbing through windows!!

I hear ya Steve! I just send my 11 year old in and he goes with a smile! I think he would crawl down a roof vent if I asked him to!
