Tolls in New Hampshire and Maine

Does anyone know the tolls for towing a Montana going through New Hampshire into Maine on Interstate 95 up to the end of the Falmouth Spur at Interstate 295? We are heading to the Northeast Rally in Booth Bay, Maine.

If you have EZ Pass - New Hampshire now has a high speed EZ Pass Lane on I-95 in Hampton and then you will pay a toll on the Maine Turnpike.

I will look on my EZ Pass (MA Fast Lane) statement and get the tolls for you.

We came up 95 last month into New Hampshire and Maine...as I recall, the tolls were 2-3 dollars at each of the three toll booths we hit.

Thanks. Don't have EZ Pass so will have to pay cash. We don't use the turnpike in Pennsylvania that much to have EZ pass.

Take I-84 to Mass Pike in Sturbridge, MA -

Not sure if you will see any tornado damage at that point -

One of the tornado's passed thru the toll booth area on Wednesday afternoon

Take Mass Pike East 1 Exit to Route 290 thru Worcester, to Route 495 North to Route I-95 North

Going thru Lawrence & Haverhill on Route 495, watch the bridges -- slow down to approx 35-40 miles an hour

The Maine Turnpike Toll to Falmouth is $10.50 --

Ray - why do you slow down for the bridges? Are they low or something?
That is the route that we will be taking. We pick up I84 in PA and travel east to Massachusetts. I saw the tornado story on the news. That was something.

The roadway over the bridges is in horrible shape

We experienced those bridges last fall. I thought they'd be fixed by now. They must have been trying to save on transition asphalt for those 6 inch drops.

We're headed to Maine later on this year and will not go on 495. Think about taking I91 north to VT, then take exit 3 on route 9 to Concord, followed by 202 and 4 to Portsmouth. It's a way prettier ride and toll free until Maine. It's all good road. Massachusetts does not know how to make a good road. I know I lived there many years and could always tell when I was entering the state, even with my eyes closed.

The NH toll is $2.50 if you have single rear wheels, $5.00 if you have duals.
Don't try to get off in South Portland on 295. You only save a dollar or two and there is construction and the traffic is terrible.

I agree about the bridges in northern Mass. If you are going 65 or so you will think you entered the rodeo.

By the way, I would go to the Topsham exit on 295. That is the exit just after Brunswick. You avoid the downtown Brunswick traffic. That is terrible in the summer. You'll get it again in Wiscasset but there ain't no way around that.

On our annual trek to Florida from Nova Scotia the I495 around Boston is the worst piece of highway for the whole trip. Bar none!

Oh, I see. It isn't going under the bridges but over them. We have some of that in Pennsylvania. You acquire really good driving skills dodging potholes, deer, skunks, knocked over cones in construction zones, etc.

When we came up last week we hit one of those overpasses too fast. It had double or triple large humps. All the clothes in the closet came off the rod! I normally slow down for those knowing how terrible they are but this one caught me off guard.

The bridges are in the Lawarence Lowell area of 495.

The State never has gotten those overpasses right!

Tolls: we have easy pass so we don't have to carry cash for tolls. But the $10.50 sounds right for Maine. NH is around $5.00 I think.

You can save yourself a bunch of money in Maine if you get off of 95 at the Maine Mall exit and take your second right. That will put on 295 north with out having to pay a toll to exit the Maine Turnpike. Have fun and enjoy our great state.

I'm told that the EZ Pass systems, everywhere, are running the operating system that I was senior designer for about 20 years ago. Apparently nothing else could do the job!

Back to the topic at hand: I wish there were some GOOD way (that doesn't add hours of driving) to get from Scranton to Bangor without going through Mass. at all!

I am planning a trip (to begin on June 21) that will take us through Kentucky, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, to Maine (Bethel/Hanover area). Without going into detail the route I have planned goes up I-81 to I-88 across NY to Schenectady/Albany area then NY 7/VT 9 to connect with I-91 North. Anything I should change or look out for?
