From Gillette, WY, it is easy to take day trips over into ND and Teddy Roosevelt National Park. If you take the RV, stay in Medora, ND and take in the Teddy Roosevelt musical. Another day trip can be to Mt Rushmore and then to the Chief Crazy Horse Monument. There is a tour of the extensive coal mining in Gillette.

Glacier National Park was outstanding in our opinion. We first stayed on the east side at Johnson's Campground in St Mary, MT. We had a great view of the Lake from up on a hillside. KOA has a campground there also, but, in our opinion, the view isn't as good. It is about a mile to the entrance of Glacier where you can take a free bus that will drop you at the different points of interest. It is much better than trying to traverse that road yourself.

Later, we went over to the west side and stayed at a campground in Hungry Horse, MT. The west side is a more populated area.

Then there is Cody, WY, with it's Cody Museum, a worthy stop if you enjoy Museums. It is on the way to Yellowstone from the east. Yellowstone is Yellowstone which is saying a lot. I think we enjoyed the Serengeti in north-east Yellowstone above all the rest. Because there were more animals. We saw black bear, grizzly bear, moose, elk and large herds of bison while in the park. Individual bison were as close as 5' from our truck.

As far as quaint towns, we liked Buffalo, WY. We stayed at Indian Campground. It is near a number of in-walking-distance eating places and a neat hiking trail which will take you to down town historical sites.

There is much more, but that should get you started.

The link below is pictures of Jackson, Montana, Bannack State Park (Ghost Town), the Big Hole Valley and surrounding area
including Jackson Hot Springs Lodge, http://www.jacksonhotsprings.com, where we worked for the summer last year 2010. There are many places to see in and around the Big Hole Valley.

If you're going to Glacier National Park, Bigfork and Flathead Lake are a couple must sees also ...

That would be nice! We are going to head N to Maybell through Rangley, CO. DW heard that Brown's Park is worth seeing. (Hwy 318 out of Maybell to North of Dutch John in UT). I don't even know if the road will handle my rig but will ck before hand.

One thing I want to see is Devil's Tower but we are just kind of loose as far as any planned destinations.

If you get to Cody, definitely stop at the museum and plan a full day there at least. Especially if you like guns!

Allan, If possible while in Wyoming take a day, ditch the RV and just drive through the Big Horns. Beautiful scenery with many places to pull off. And if you think it is beautiful in a vehicle you can come back in Dec through March and see it from a snowmobile. WOW!!! Jim

Battle of the Little Bighorn battlefield where Custer met his end is right off Interstate 90 near Garryowen, MT, maybe 50 miles after you cross into MT from WY.

There is so much to see in those two states you'll need more than one trip. If I can provide any suggestions, please click the envelope icon above this message and email me and I'll point you to the places on our website for some ideas. And we're hardly scratched the surface.

Enjoy your trip.

Thermopolis was a delightful surprise for us. We went there from Casper, WY and did not know what to expect but found a beautiful canyon just before the town and wound up staying for a few days soaking in the hot springs...

You folks are rattling my memory (what there is left of it). We have been to a lot of the places you have recommended but that was years ago and we will probably return to some of them.

Thanks again for all the input!
