Furnace Automatically Switching to Heat Pump?

So with this terrible cold spring weather I had already de-winterized and as a result turned on my furnace and set it at 60 degrees. When I returned after a few days the furnace was off and the Heat Pump was running? While I was there I turned it back to furnace though the temperatures weren’t overly cold. The furnace warmed the unit up and then once again switched over to the Heat Pump? Does anyone know what caused this to happen? ( other than a ghost?)

Is it something automatic with the new Montanas?

Check to see if the fan is set to "auto". That seems to be the only way mine will work.

When I pick mine up Friday from dealer for warranty repairs ,I will ask.

Mine kept the kitchen a/c - heat pump fan running, when running the furnace for some odd reason, they said on phone it was thermostat settings, I`m going to MAKE them show me what that setting is/was they found and how to correct it if it happens again. I only got it too shut off by using the breaker to kill the fan.

Have not heard of that. Will not do much good as the heat pump does no good when cold enough to NEED the furnace. Now ~~ if there was an auto switch that went by outside temp and switched to HP during the day and back to furnace at 39* that would be an improvement!

It’s on the ‘FAN’ part of your T-Stat. Toggle the selections through High Low Med to Auto.

Only used a couple of times, but I believe the answer is yes.
