We use a scanner too. Ours is an older style Radio Shack hand held that we bought before they stopped allowing some of the various nice to have freqs. Our unit has come in handy many many times and during hurricane season, especially when one is headed our way which was often last year, we have it on listening for the latest updates. We do the same on monitoring the police and fire bands especially when traveling and we are in an unfamilar place. Plus it's just good fun to listen in on whats going on.
