Dave, I'm 5'11" and 190#'s. You might want to keep a Sawzall with you in the bedroom.

If you got to go out that window don't worry about scrapes, bruises or a broken bone,It is much better than cindered.I drove a school bus for the handicapped who could not get out of the bus in the event of a fire or other emergency, How would we get them out..Open the back hatch and throw them out. wheel chair and all if need be..it beats the alternative.

We don't like to think about it. I am wondering how one gets out of the basement after going down through the hamper door. The exterior door would be fastened shut. If fire is there I could, but would prefer not to drop from the bedroom window. I have done it, going out a second story window on sheets fastened together at our farmhouse for an emergency that was not a fire. A rope would a good idea. the knitter

Knitter, I wonder how you would get IN to the basement! Aren't most of them crammed to the rafters anyway?

There is a emergency rope window ladder that you can get,Don't know where but a similar device is used in aircraft cockpits for crew escape out the window.I will bet that if we looked hard enough we could find were to get one..The fire department might be a starting place..

You can get them on the internet at any safety supply house. I've bought them for two story school buildings.

A google will bring up many sites..here are a few
www.fireescapesystems.com www.safelines.com
www.needmorestuff.com
and yes a rope ladder will burn and a chain ladder can get really hot..you can get either one. I think this is a really good safety device to have on board/This is something we had not thought of as we always had a TT and the Bedroom window in the Fifth IS sort of high off the ground...We will be buying one,,Rope I think as it will be a used but one time then it will burn or melt..Helen and I do not want to do either one of those..
