Has anyone replaced the oem haligon headlights with leds. If so what brand did you use and how do they work?

This is something I have been flowing closely. I had a 2015 F150 and now a 2018 F150. They take the same headlights as yours. Diode Dynamics makes the best ones. They are fairly pricey $150 pre set for low beam and another $150 for high beams. The problem with the cheap ones is they blind oncoming traffic. They aren’t very well focused. Go to Diode Dynamic and check them out.

Are they legal? I think at least some states prohibit replacing OEM headlights with brighter HID lights. Don’t know about LEDs.

As far as I know they are legal. In all of my research I have found no mention of them not being legal.

Lynwood,
Thanks for the info. You confirmed my suspisions. In my research I hadn't found diode dynamic yet but it looked like focus was an issue with the cheap ones. Still $300 is much better than the Ford option. $... Also I have not found any issue with legality, HID yes but nothing on LED.

I installed LED headlights on my '11 and within a short time had several trouble codes. I was able to clear them with the Scan Gauge but they came back within a couple days. Those code have now gone away since returning to high intensity Phillips bulbs. The LEDs I used were from Super Bright LEDs and supposedly shielded from these kinds of problems - but weren't. I suspect that later Fords wont be affected since LEDs have become an option on later models.
I also was not happy with the light beam on high as it wasn't much better then the low - which was extremely bright but not much if any longer distance. Evidently the Ford (as well as other brands) aren't shaped for this mod. The Phillips bulbs have almost a dood low beams and the highs are better. But with that said, the lights still could be better. There are some after maket housings that supposedly work well but at their inflated price and the few nighttime hours I drive these days for sure aren't in my budget

I’m on a F150 site, visit every day. I haven’t heard of this problem with the DD bulbs.

Question about LEDs from a southern guy. When/IF we get snow here, it is usually the wet/sticky kind that likes to stick to the fronts of moving vehicles very well. Standard headlights give off enough heat to melt the snow until it is an ice glaze which can still be seen and still provide you with light to see by. Now without the LEDs producing heat, how does that work? I've thought about changing my Ford headlights to LED, but still uncertain. The reason I ask is that in recent years every time it snows here it seems as I am on duty(paramedic) and the med unit LED lights we have all over the unit snow over and are not visible. Especially the front ones facing oncoming traffic. Just something I've pondered but haven't asked until now.

Will LED head lights melt snow? Without really knowing I would say yes. They have either a heat sink or a small fan to cool them, so they do produce some heat. The DDs have a cooling fan.

I dug into the Ford Truck Enthusiast site when I started with those codes and found that I wasn't alone though it was only a single post on a thread which with their current format can't find again, Removing the lights and using the Scan Gauge cleared all of them - 5 or 6 and haven't seen but one since and that one is the EGR cooler if I don't run the truck hard occasionally

LEDs may put out enough heat where you live to keep the lens clear in a sloppy snow but it is quite a bit less then halogen/incandescents. Phillips and Sylvania make some very good high output halogens that will put out a great light beam and focused better, plus will for sure keep that headlight housing warm My luck with Phillps bulbs has been very good, Sylvanias - just hohum. Unless you like the blue color, take care of what lumen output you use, regarless of type.

If you have questions about DD lights go to their web site and look. There have been many discussions on the F150 site about head lights with a lot of pictures posted at night. Most of the LEDs are pure junk. These give a very defined light pattern most don’t. A lot of the others burn out in short order these are warranted for 3 years. I would get a set but I haven’t had my F150 out at night so they probably wouldn’t be or much use to me.

As others have said, I don't think I do that much night driving to justify it.
