Salem, OR

I will be in Salem, OR 12-15 November. Does anybody know of any good CGs in the area?

It depends on what you want, trees or good location. If you don't mind being a little north of Salem, the Woodburn RV park behind the Company stores is an easy on-off location off I-5 and easy shopping too. There is a campground off one of the exits in Salem you can see from the highway on the south end of town. It has more trees. I believe it is a KOA. I am not sure of the name but will try to find it for you. We have friends in Keizer, and we normally stay in the Woodburn park.

There is a state park: http://www.oregonstateparks.org/park_113.php

The State Park is Champoeg, one of the nicest state parks I have visited in Oregon. But it is 31 miles North of downtown Salem, so it's appeal will depend on where in the Salem area you want to be.

I will be at a meeting at the Salem Conference Center at 200 Commercial Street. Can anybody tell about the CGs in the area? I have found info on Phoenix RV Park, Premier RV Resorts, Salem Campground & Woodburn RV park. How should these be ranked, or what can anybody recommend? Thanks for the help.

As I said before, we have stayed at the Woodburn RV park and you would have to decide for yourself whether it is too far to drive. It is a good location, good shopping, and easy on and off I-5. We have also stayed at the Phoenix RV Park. Unless it has changed a lot, we found it to be incredibly noisy, more like a continuation of a parking lot. It is behind a shopping center on a busy street. When we stayed there on a weekend there was noise from a band somewhere close by that vibrated the RV and we could not sleep, so our memories of that park are not good. It is also a good location for shopping, but it not as easy to get your RV up and down that busy road. The only other one I have seen is the KOA, and it looks like it has some trees. It is located in the southern part of Salem. If you are bringing your wife along, I would personally choose Woodburn, as she could walk to the factory stores. If you are going alone, I would choose location. My 2 cents!

I am unable to locate specific information on Woodburn RV park. Do you have a website for them? Address?

I could not get the virtual tour to work. Note the coupon for your 3rd night free.

Update - had a call from my friend in Keizer. She reminded me of this one: http://premierrvresorts.com/salem.htm
It used to be called Eola Bend, so I was confused about the new name. You would have to check on a map to see if it is closer to where you need to be. It is on the river in west Salem. We have not personally stayed there.

Those links were right on the mark. It looks like the park is about 17 miles north of Salem. I'm not sure I want to be that far out. At least now I have some information to go on and with a couple of maps can figure out what to do. Thanks for the help.

Well, made my reservation at Premier RV Resorts. They have three classes of spaces. Class 1 is for pickups and campers or tents. Class two was a standard type space for MH and 5ers. Class 3 was two standards, side by side. I told them I would take a class 2, how long was it. She said plenty long for a 37' 5er, it was 51' long. I said, Hmmm. I am 55' long with TV and 5er. Where do you park your TV. In front or behind your 5er she said. I took a class 3 because you can park on the second pad. Park looks good, but watch out for your length. I will let you know how the park is when I get back. Thanks again for the help.

FYI the length of the space does not always take into account that when you back the 5th wheel in (unless it is a pull through) you normally back up beyond the end of the drive. We can get into spaces in the state park only 45 ft long, as our rig extends several feet beyond the cement barrier at the back of the space. This is not true in every park but most of them.

Hope this location works out well for you. It is much nicer along the river than it is in town, and I believe you will be within reasonable distance of where you need to be. We nearly stayed there once when it was Eola Bend but opted for Phoenix RV Park and wish we had not done that!

The Premier Resort in Coburg I believe is located behind the Montana dealer. I am glad you enjoyed it, but isn't it the one right off the freeway? We have often thought that would be incredibly noisy.
