Roof maintenance

I was wondering, since I have had my rv about a year now what roof maintenance should I be performing? Should I replace all the dicor (I think that’s the sealant), or go over the top of it.? Or maybe something else..? Thank you !

Tony

Look for places in the sealant that have cracked or separated and clean the areas and just go over the top with additional Dicor.

Your roof needs nothing more than has already been stated. Of course you could wash it but the manufacturer says you don’t need to or you could save yourself a lot of work and just take a nap in it. That is what I do.

Put Eturnabond tape over the front and rear seams and also around any vents etc. Caulk the edges of the tape. You will not have to worry about a seam leak for quite some time. As mentioned, if a dirty roof bugs you, then by all means clean it. But that is not necessary to do.

So you’re saying to remove all the existing and redo..?

Roofs are basically maintenance free. As Bob said if you find a crack or separation use a little dicor to fix but that spot only. Unless you hit a limb or something you should not need to do anything with it.

Ok so I get the dicor in today and went up on the roof. It looked good till I got to the front. There is a roof vent there next to the front cap that was coming off. I could see some air under the roof membrane. I removed the cap the screws were in sideways which allowed it to come off only held on with 1 screw. I did my best to work out the trapped air, the insulation was dry and no water damage anywhere.

I reinstalled the vent with dicor underneath the vent on top of the roof screwed the vent in with the same screws and added washers. Sealed all around it to include the screws and re attached the top piece. Hope that will be ok...

Found some openings in the dicor on the shower skylight, cleaned and applied. I also touched up the 4 corners where the roof meets the front and rear cap. The roof was not super tight I’m assuming to allow for expansion and contraction..? But I did seal where the dicor was cracked.

Does that sound like I did everything right..?

Tony

Last to die, You do have to remove anything to install the Eturnabond tape. Simply clean up the area with acetone/lacquer thinner and apply the tape. Work slowly and use a roller of some sort to press it down. Once stuck, Its a bear to remove.

There wasn’t a rip so I didn’t use any eternabond, I have it just didn’t need it. Before I applied the dicor I did remove the old dicor and clean.

That's the beauty of the tape. Install it once and will not have to worry so much about having to get up there to check for areas where the dicor needs to be redone. Trust me, Its great stuff.

I have seen a similar reply before. My Monte is at the lot right now, but I think I saw where a guide for the roof described "periodic cleaning"?

I would't put Eternabond tape on if you don't have any tears, just use the Dicor where ever you find cracks.

The Eturnabond tape prevents leaks that WILL destroy you trailer if you don't notice a crack or whatever in the dicor. Its your choice, but IMHO you are flirting with disaster by not using the tape. To each his own I guess.
