Clinton IN, 1000 Trails, near Indianapolis
Taking a 3 week respite from travelling. Need tourist info for Terre Haute (if any), and Indianapolis (other than the Brickyard and home of Peyton and boys), anything else to see? Thanks in advance!!!

Roy has family in Clinton. His parents lived in Montezuma north of Clinton when they retired. In the fall they have a covered bridge festival in Rockville that is pretty big for that small area. Outside of Rockville they have Billie Creek Village, which is an interesting place to visit if you are close to that area.

When we lived in northern Indiana we always made the trip south for that event. The food alone is worth it.

In Parke County there is a covered bridge trail that can be taken. This is a "driving" trail and covers a number of miles. (Do not know to be exact, but 40/50? for round-trip) The BW and I did this several years ago and enjoyed the view of the covered bridges as well as the challenge of following a map and locating the bridge.
Turkey Run State Park is a good place to hike, if into that.
In Indy, there is the zoo, Children's Museum, State Museum, Art Museum, Eitljorg Museum (American Indian), for nite-life, there is the restaurant/bar scene downtown, if you are into drag racing, the US Nationals are during Labor Day weekend on the westside.

Phil - Cecil M Hardin Lake or we still call it Racoon lake is North and east of T Haute. Google Indiana DNR and check out the State Parks. Turkey Run SP is also in that area. Might I also recommend in the South Middle of the State. Brown County State Park is by Nashville In and lots of shops to walk around and look. Also Spring Mill South of Bloomington has a neat real old village with a working water mill and a beautiful campground. There is a Thousand Trails off I74 down by Batesville and there are 2 Casino's within 45 min drive of there. I live in Brownsburg just west of Indy so if you need anything, send me a PM and I'll give you a call.

Thanks for the input. Phil, after we leave here, we will be at Indian Lakes for another week, Then on to Wright Patterson AFB for a week then up to Elkhart to MorRyde and the Rally. Will have to look up some of these spots. BW2, we did the Yellow route for the bridges, pretty neat, although most looked the same so we quit after about 7 of them. We also did the "Grounds" tour of Indy speedway. THAT WAS AWESOME. A look that most people do not get. Nancy, the covered bridge festival is in Oct, too late for us, but, this weekend is the "Little Italy Festivel" in Clinton. Thought we might go to that. Next week we want to go to Springfield IL to visit the Lincoln sites. Will be some long days....... This sightseeing is tiring work Wayne, but a chore that must be done!!!!!

We used to go to Raccoon Lake before it became a state park. Roy's uncle owned much of the land around the lake and his parents had a little piece of it with a trailer on it.

Did one of the hikes at Turkey Run today and had lunch there also, nice park, nothing open though as everything goes dormant after Labor Day, but a good time nonetheless..
