Covered Parking

The DW and I found a killer deal on the carport. 3 months later the ‘04 3255RL gets to stay dry this winter and less sun damage.

Side note and second picture is the homemade lifting bracket for the PullRite Auto Slider.

Found the carport used for $800. Had to tear it down and set back up.

Yep i have the very same car port. 48 feet long and 20 feet wide. I can put the slides out and still have plenty of room the wall around it. I had it built $6200.00 including foundation to city specs.

About what I have. Put through with electric, water and a dump station. Great place to take a nap, getting sleepy see ya later.

We are into it about $2,500. I think we got a stellar deal. Electric to come in the spring. Water is close by and dump station is 10 minutes. So no need to tie into the septic. It could be a pull through but I’d need to cut down a tree and don’t mind backing (I can do it alone)

Size 18’x40’x14’

Covered protection is a good thing to have.We have never had covered covered as we could not build one were we lived. We do have 50 amp full hookups on our property in Ohio. It would be a necessity here at our winter residence in Florida as the summer sun is brutal. You can see the difference between RV's not under cover and those that are here in Florida. We never stored any of our Rv's under cover in Northern Ohio and never saw any damage due to the weather.

I’m guessing you made the piece of metal with the lifting point eye bolt? I have the Pullrite Auto Slider and lift it out with my tractors front end loader, but use several chains. Hard part is finding the balanced lifting point. Really tough doing it alone.

I did make the bracket for lifting. I may switch over to a chain method and see how it works. I’m still young enough that I can muscle the hitch around a little if needed.

How well does your chain method work for balancing?

Quick question for those of you that have a rv carport. What height of legs do I need to clear a fifth wheel? I have a travel trailer now but the wife and I want to move to a 5th wheel in the next year or so.
I am planning on having a rv port built in the spring and want to be sure I build it high enough to clear the future 5th wheel.

Thanks

The chain method is just not to good. Always afraid that the hitch will slide while I have it lifted and it will fall/shift enough to hit my truck. Gotta come up with your technique. As high priced as Pullrite accessories are, they could make a killing on selling your device. I do wish they would install lifting points on their hitches.

Steve .. Whatever you do, if you are planning on fifth wheels, minimum height for overhead clearance should be 13’ 6”. I know that sounds crazy. I went from travel trailer to FW, measured my parents RV building and their motorhome, everything was 13’ 1”. They had a lot of clearance. I built a very nice pole barn with horse stalls, 30x50 and 13’ 1” clearance. Then went to trade for fifth wheels. Holy Cow !! I’m screwed for life. FW’s are always over 13’ 3”. High Country’s or Cedar Creeks still will fit. Hopefully, you already know all that. Wished I did.

In my city we are allowed to go 16 feet above the highest point of the street in front of the lot. As a result my cover is 15’ 6” tall in the center and 13’ 8” on the sides. Lots of room.

Have a 14’ clearance at the door and allow more if you do a roll up door.

My pole barn is 40wx42d(outside dimensions). I shot for a 13 foot door opening, but ended up at 12' 10". My 2011 3455sa clears the door opening by 1". The newer units are taller. I do however have 14' 4" clearance to the truss bottoms so if I ever get a taller unit I could make some door modifications to make it work.

If I had it to over again, I would go at least 50'deep, 60'wide and 16' tall.

It will depend on the roof pitch of the carport, but the metal guys should know the exact height to the center. Ours has 12' legs and is 50'x18' and is 15'5" to the center at the top. More than enough room to let all of the slides out and protect both ends from the elements.

Looks great. What ever you can do to keep the snow/rain/sunlight off your rig the better.

Always build for the future!! I have a friend that had a garage built for his previous camper and then had to have it modified ($$$$$$) for his new camper and it is still too short for the next one he wants to buy!! Go ahead and build to fit ANY camper from the start and then at least you won't have to worry about it when you go to the next level. I also think that way about tow trucks. Get more than you need now so when you buy your next camper you don't automatically have to buy a bigger tow truck too!!
