Dick,
Don't you get this at the beginning of your pump? That is unless someone has done what the post suggests!

I think you do it when you're done pumping to get out what's left in the hose. I haven't tried it yet but will the next time I fill up Louise' car or my truck. At the price of diesel/gas it may be awhile.

Took my own advice and filled up at $4.33 per gallon. Total was just north of $125.00. On a good note, storms are prevalent, river is up and muddy with much flotsam (saw some pretty good sized logs floating downstream). Boat is not moving from the dock this weekend, therefore boating cost is $0. That savings just paid for the whole tank of diesel. Funny how these things can be justified in our minds??? Now we will wait to see where the diesel price goes for the holiday when we will be travelling to Revelles in Elkins, WV.

When is this going to end????? Maybe when everyone is broke? I see no help from our leaders as they[paid by us] get their fuel free so why do they care and from here to Washington they get theirs free also. Ever get the feeling someone is stealing out of your pocket? What is this doing to the RV industry? Can't be good.

Hazmic asks the question - "What is this doing to the RV industry? Can't be good."... I've seen several posts and read a couple of news articles where some major RV makers are cutting staff, production and closing lines. Spoke to an RV delivery driver dropping off a new Montana Big Sky yesterday - said that there are trailers (all makes, models, sizes) sitting in the production and delivery lots waiting because there are not enough drivers willing to pull them now with the fuel prices the way they are. Shortly after that I heard a sales man tell a customer that they could save 1000 to 1500 if they went to the factory and pulled it back themselves!! My .02 but I think this is just the start of this -- I see $5.00 diesel being written about in several trade and academic journals (marketing and economics journals where professors are writing of the impact this will have in other areas (food, housing, clothing, even entertainment such as movies, theme parks and even the casinos -- one was talking about whether Kansas will make the money it plans on from opening up its own casinos given the reduced driving people are expected to do)). We'll see - nothing much else we can do but ride it out I guess.

I watched the Today show this morning and Lester Holt's co-anchor was interviewing an economic "expert". The co-anchor's last question was "do you think gas will hit $4/gal?" What a moron!!!!!!

Article today on CNN.com: gas prices (ave in US) jumped from 3.67 on Fri to 3.71 today. Just when you think the weekend gives the markets and price jumps a break. They did not discuss diesel, but it can't be good...
Many of these analyst and govt officials are walking around with there head in a fog. Scary. There is a serious disconnect between them and us in the real world.

Dave- I think your comment on the analysts and government people having their head in the fog is an underestimate but I think you've gone the wrong direction on where they placed their heads. IF they only had to drive to work and around inthe big city and the capital and spend their own bucks to get there, they'd all be checking the profits the oil companies are making. Of course the government officials aren't accepting any money from the oil companies for their campaigns and benefit packages are they??!!?? Watch and see what is going to happen if the truckers start to shut down do to the high costs of fuel and trucking the goods across the US and Canada! Article in the paper today interviewing the drivers and truckers filling up. The truckers are supposedly cutting their speeds back to save on the fuel due to the costs. They said in the article that for every mile per hour over 60 they are driving, it's costing them 1.6 mpg. One independent trucker here said he has had to lease his rig and himself out to larger companies now because he can't afford the fuel anymore. He said it makes him cry to take his name and etc off the doors of his truck but he had to to survive! Something has to change or this nation will be turning belly up!

maybe some hope soon...this is a couple of analyst's prediction..
Tim Evans, an energy futures analyst at Citigroup's Futures Perspective, says this..what will happen to oil prices over the next few years? No one is predicting $10 per barrel oil. However, once the current bubble bursts, both Evans and Lynch believe that the price of crude will settle at around $60 to $70 per barrel in the next couple of years."It's very hard to pinpoint just how long a bubble can expand before it breaks. Getting the timing right is not an easy matter," says Evans. But he adds, "I think that this is the riskiest time to be long in crude oil since 1980.
So just maybe that bubble will burst soon, I hope
Tom

On the road and in Louisiana, $4.19 a gal at Pilot 2, off of I-10. Seems to be the norm at the Pilot 2 truck stops.

Another concern is not just the price of crude. Say that it peaks next winter around 150/bbl then falls to 65/bbl over the next 6 months. While the price of fuel may be back to under $3/gal, the damage - ripple effect - has been done. Businesses lost, unemployment skyrocketing, young families and those on fixed income running into bad situations and needing help from the govt, and other serious repercussions. You can't just have something like this hit the economy and then everything go back the way it was. Things will change.
We are making history. This will be a blurb in tomorrow's history books - this unprecedented run up in oil/fuel prices. However, I fear most of the chapter(s) will be reserved for chronicling the resultant aftermath...
I don't mean that to be doomsday ranting. Humans are generally a resilient lot. It will be interesting.

Well, my prediction was almost right. It's 3 days later than I predicted, but we are officially 3 cents away from $5.00 a gallon in Seward. The truck was filled up this morning and is being parked tonight. Gas for my car is $4.30something a gallon. Too much. It is out of control. And we have an oil pipeline running right thru our state. Hello?

I'm filling up tomorrow at NAS Pensacola at $4.12 a gallon. I saw it in town at Wally-World for $4.19 and other stations at $4.25. I'm going to hate headding north to those higher prices.

N. MI prices: $4.50 - diesel. $3.98 - gas.
Congress passed a resolution? today to stop putting 70K bbl/day into the national reserve. Both houses by huge margins. While I agree the effect of stopping the practice until the end of the year will have minimal effect on fuel prices - one estimate was 2 cents - at5 least the psychological effect would be huge.
At least it shows that someone finally is at least TRYING to do something at that level. And also it shows that congress FINALLY got the message from someone, somehow.

I topped of yesterday at 429.9 and 2 hours later they were up to 449.9. As of yesterday there was still 1 station at 422.9 but too far to drive to.
