I messed up. Yesterday I could have purchased diesel for 409.9 and today it was up to 419.9. We drove up to Wisconsin to do some shopping and found it for 409.9 but had my wife's car so we filled up with regular for 339.9. My wife and her friend kept talking about when we were going camping again and all her husband and I could do was groan.

and gasoline is $3.199.

I know I shouldn't complain, because we Montanans haven't been paying the heart-stopping fuel prices that some of you have been paying for weeks now. Still, it was a shock to see what happened between the time I arrived at work today and the time I left for home: Diesel went from $4.06 to $4.14 a gallon. Ouch, ouch, ouch!

We're pulling our Monty to Texas in June, a trip of about 1800 miles one way. After diesel started climbing, we considered flying rather than driving. However, I checked airline ticket prices today. Ouch, ouch, ouch! (And that didn't include a rental car for 2 weeks.) We're so remote that we literally "can't get there from here" without a minimum of one high-dollar puddle jumper flight to a hub city first, and for the two of us to fly in June would actually cost more than paying for gas and hauling our rig.

I swear, I'd vote for a One-Eyed Flying Purple People-Eater in November if he/she would promise to drop fuel prices immediately!

Carolyn

I am in an RV park off 55 in Sikeston, Missouri. Diesel at a little station outside the park is $3.83. I JUMPED ON IT LIKE A FLY ON A COW PIE.

Well I'm just spoiled 3.85 to 3.87 and so far it's holding at these prices. Not bad for being on the "Southside" of Chicago. Ya know Indiana keeps getting the raw end of the stick but it is nice to see the prices sometimes are good. There are many stations selling at 4.09 to 4.16 also.

Paid 395.9 in Beatty, NV today. 75 miles away in Vegas it is over 4.00, go figure.

Denver seems to be holding at $3.85 or so, but I saw diesel a few days ago for $4.19. Looking more and more like a close to home summer.

Here on Long Island gas prices are from $3.43-$3.69 and diesel are from $4.43-$4.69. I watched "I am legend" the movie with Will Smith and there was a glimpse of a Mobil gas station and the prices were close to $7 a gallon. The story was happening in the year 2012. I guess our
traders and oil companies are working hard to beat that dead line.

Glad you made it home Rich & Helen before your "mouse money" ran out. By me it's 419.9 but a few mile south it's 409.9-414.9 and about 5 miles west is 407.9. I have seen it as high as 425.9 but that station is always high.

Prices here in Texas City range from $3.85 to $3.93.

With 3 refineries, BP, Velaro, and Marathon, you would think it would be cheaper.

Has to be GREED!

My 22 yr old daughter called late last night on Dad's cell phone from N. MI. Red flags went up immediately as, 1. she usually calls on Mom's phone and 2. she never calls that late at night.

Her husband is temporarily laid off and she is between jobs - starting a new one in 2 weeks. She is fiercely independent and doesn't like to ask for help for her and her 2 and 4 yr old daughters, as well as her husband, who at 25 was diagnosed with MS last year.

She no longer can put gas ($3.55 and diesel is $4.30) in her car and she can no longer drive her 4 yr old to Head Start (15 miles). They had their last "old" hot dogs out of their fridge last night. Eggs in N MI are $3 a dz now with milk at $4. She finally went to apply for food stamps and they are a week away due to govt red tape and bureaucracy.

Dad will step in and set up an account at the local grocery store and we will help out with the girls when we get up there next week. Also, daughter and son-in-law will learn some valuable lessons from this. However, this is ridiculous. Food and fuel prices are running out of control and I am sure my youngest daughter is not the only one in this situation.

Politicians seem to be sitting on their hands and just trying to ride this out. The so called "experts" are useless as they are constantly being "surprised" by our rapidly deteriorating economic data these past 5 months.

Time to start writing to our congressmen. No one seems to be alarmed by the the fact that we will be soaring past $115/bbl for oil and that our refineries are now voluntarily cutting back on production of fuel (down to 81% capacity now, even though they could be, and should be at 90% right now) because of their reduced profit margins.

Cheryl and I are in a good position economically, relative to many people. However, it very frustrating to see so much devastation going on all around you - especially in your own family.

Latest price here in southern Oregon is $4.37 for diesel but we saw it higher than that off 101 in northern California when we were there recently. I feel sorry for those who have a long commute and have no option for a vehicle.

Here in Three Lakes, Wi. diesel just went to 4.25
Guess I should have filled up last fall when they were 3.51 a gal.
I didnt at the time because I figured they would drop over the winter. Guess I was wrong!!!
It sure will hurt filling up Big Red this year!! (actually I doubt I will be able to fill it up)
It use to be the camp site fees were one of the bigger expenses for a weekend trip. Now it is the fuel!

When ordinary good folks can not provide the basic needs for themselves and their family the rules of society go out the window.....There is a storm brewing folks.

I just came home from shooting my real estate photos and drove past a Phillips 66 that was charging 441.9 and he was getting a load. Last week he was 414.9. The rest of the stations are as they were but I did drive past two others at 429.9. FYI, regular is 348.9-355.9

Louise and I are planning our Memorial Day outing and it will be about 20 miles north, for a week. I think that's what it will be like for the summer, short hauls, long stays.

Diesel here in central FL just took a huge jump last night. I drove my truck right by a $3.99 station last night and almost turned around. Then I thought, well I really wanted to fill up on Mon in prep for beginning our 1425 mile trek north on Tues. Went by that station this morning and it had leaped to $4.11. That just cost me $3.00+ for that decision. I am getting in the truck right now and running to a station that I believe may still be under $4.05.

My wife took the car (that I was just able to get filled for $3.39) tonight to go somewhere with the girls. I gave her a lecture about not idling of running that thing anymore than absolutely possible. She thought I was getting just a little "paranoid". I'm not - just ticked off...
