IS, Disc Brake and Pin box upgrade

We are still kicking around all our options, including keeping our current 5th wheel. If we keep it I will be going all out on upgrades to include:
Independent Suspension
Disc Brakes
Cushion Pin Box
Upgraded tires

That being the case can I get everything except the tires done all at once at Mor/Ride in Indiana?

Anyone that has done the first three give me an idea of the cost and how long the install took? Granted I have a triple axle so have to consider the additional cost and time.

We had Performance Trailer Braking replace our shoes with DISC's from this years rally. Absolutely the best decision, stopping is no longer an issue, the $2K well worth the improved safety. Dennis completed ours in a day at his ranch, we stayed 2 nights, beautiful place.

Tredit Tire, the company that supplies Sailuns to Keystone also has a retail outlet up there so you could get it all done in one trip.

First off you can get all the items including the tires while at Moryde. Moryde is located in the RV supplier capitol of the world and there are many tire centers including Tredit that are OEM suppliers to Keystone. There are also tire centers with mobile service techs that can and will perform the tire change while you are in the bay at Moryde. This is exactly what we did. We purchased 4400# rated wheels and had our Sailuns dismounted from the original wheels and mounted on the new ones. This allowed us to take full advantage of the 8k upgrade of our IS suspension...and yes the OEM sticker still govorns capacity ratings.


IS is such and improvement I will not own another 5th wheel without it. In addition with the general size of Montana's I personally think that db's should be standard equipment and just increase the price. We also took advantage of the goosenect adaptor kit for the Moryde kingpin since we use a Anderson Ultimate hitch.


When we decide to upgrade someone is going to get an awesome rig.

Yep already have an email out to them but I still like to hear what the folks on here say. I trust you guys far more than anyone else! We may argue about who has the best truck but I never doubt the honesty and good intentions.

Has anyone ever converted from cable slides to hydraulic? Is it worthwhile?


Has anyone ever converted from electric to hydraulic leveling? Is it worthwhile?

Anyone know of a solid step system that will slide UNDER the 5th wheel? OR quick detach?


We really liked the feel of the solid steps that fold inside the rig BUT we have a porch at our current full time campsite.


Has anyone tried to make the fold inside steps quick disconnect?

Don't know if the same for the HC line or not but ours were rated for 3750.

Jim, the wheel capacity may be stamped on the inside of the wheel along with the air pressure rating. Might not, but easy to crawl under and check. I bet the change from the electric to hydraulic systems you mentioned would be ridiculously priced and worth nowhere near the price.

With the wheels bolted up to the drums, you will have to remove a wheel to see the load and pressure info cast into one of the spokes. You probably have wheels rated for 110 psi and 3750 lbs, but the info on the wheel should be verified.

The "Jim's mod thread" The fame may need to be modified and the frame under the slide will most likely need to be modified to accommodate hydraulics.

On a different thread someone posted the Mod to make the step removable.
I also think Torx Glowsteps come in a flavor that swing in and are removable.

We have a SunriseRV porch that works with our fold out steps.

The Boss, I mean DW, will not allow us to leave home with out them

The morryde shop works very smooth, efficient, and are great to deal with. I would imagine that two long days would get a triple done as 1.5 days does the dual. And with a triple, you would be able to use the 7k I.S. and discs. I could guess 7k for a triple axle, but that is all it would be. 17.5 inch wheels give you more capacity/safety over the 16 inch wheels that came on it.

Since we’re talking about wheels, does anyone know what wheel is used on the spare underneath the unit. Standard aluminum like the other 4 or a plain Jane steel wheel. Long story, but left the unit in Atlanta and would like to know before we fly back from Minneapolis to Atlanta and continue our post Christmas vacation.

My 2012 3150RL has 4 nice aluminum wheels and as a spare one very ugly black steel wheel with a little surface rust.
