Soft, squeeky stairs in 305RL

My new High Country 305RL has very poor support under the stairs leading to the bathroom and bedroom. When I was under that area installing my DC monitor wiring I noticed what looked like 3/4" square pine supports and shimmed under the ones that weren't even making contact with the RV lower floor. Has anyone else discovered this issue and what have you done to improve the support under these steps? I am wondering if I can remove the return air vents to install better support or if I have to crawl underneath again. Thanks. (I am one to repair myself if at all possible rather than making the 200 mile round trip to the dealer)

Yes, you can access the area by removing the furnace vent in the stairs and it is easy to brace your steps

Don't know about the high country but I removed the 2 carpeted steps from my 2011 3455sa and built new wood steps with 3 treads. Less depth and rise. Way more sturdy and more comfortable to walk up. To make use of all that wasted space under them all 3 treads are hinged and flip open to store whatever will fit under them. They are also stained wood now instead of carpet. I also removed the carpet on the landing which had vinyl flooring already under it. Now we can come in and use the bathroom without stepping on any carpeted areas. The vents are now gone. They were suppose to be the return air for the furnace. As someone else said, as leaky as these campers are, there should be no problem for the furnace to draw return air from other places. Besides we rarely we the propane heat anyway.
