Another TST Question

I see that TST recommends metal valve stems. I had new tires put on the Monty just before getting the TST system and never gave it a thought about what kind of new stems should be installed. So do I need to get metal stems put on or is anyone running the system on rubber stems that can tell me if they work OK?

Wish I could help. We have 17.5" wheels with metal valve stems rated at 200 psi.

That said, any measure you can take to provide yourself more safety margin is worth it.

We tried rubber stems on the dually with tst monitors and one leaked so i had to take them off. The centrifugal force bends the rubber stems and breaks the seal at the base. You can try, but have the means to inflate the tire in the event they do leak (which i think they will) and you have to take them off. I would not even try without a compressor with me. Bottom line, if they are full rubber stems, they most likely will leak, if they are rubber jacketed, they may work. The last statement is our experience since that is the type we have.

I ran the brass jacketed rubber stems on my 3150 for about a year with no issue ... when I got rid of the Marabombs, I had metal stems installed in the deal.

We've run the brass jacketed rubber ones for about a year and a half with no problems, but it is on my list to replace.

I also had trouble with the rubber stems. The sensors would loosen up and leak. Switched them out for metal ones and haven't had a problem since.

Thanks to all for your insight. Will have the stems replaced when we return from the lake next week.
