Practicalities

DW and I are planning to go full time within the next year. I've read up a lot on mail services, pet care, health care, and establishing a "home address," like in Florida. But don't some things require proof of residence, like a utility bill or lease? I seem to recall needing to do that in the past--maybe for a driver's license? How do you handle that if you are a full timer?

Didn't ahve a problem in the past using our Escapee unique mail forwarding address. Now we own a lot in a SKP COOP park, The Ranch, in Lakewood, NM and so we can use that address if we ever need to.

We established legal residency in South Dakota. For that state, easy. Establishment of a mail box, and reregistration of vehicles and DL. Check Dakotapost.com, and talk with them re specific SD procedures. That background should help as you explore other states. Can't address what Florida, other states require.

Donna and I have been on the road for over a year now. We established our domicile in Florida and use the Escapees park in Bushnell as our address for all the State required items. We use the Escapee mail forwarding service in Livingston TX for everything else. Works great and the people at the state agency in Bushnell were great to work with.

We just started full timing and use one of our granddaughters as our mailing address. This way we maintain our Washington state residency, mostly for our health care insurance. Will not work for everybody as you need a willing, reliable person to do it for you. Plus we have very limited mail as we do everything we can paperless. Have not found any good reason yet to change residency to one of the popular full timer states as of yet.

X2. While we were full time it was just better for us if we used our eldest son's address in our home state. Health insurance was one of the considerations but there were others issues I didn't want to deal with, like filing income tax for example. For us it was just easier and "cleaner" to remain a resident of our home state.

We have been Escapee RV Club members for 23 years. Use their mail service. The link is to their home page, poke around on it. They also have a good forum as related to RV'ing.

We use the UPS Store for our address. It is a S&B address and not a PO Box. Has worked for our Drivers License and everything else so far. They will forward our mail anywhere we are located in the country for a small charge.
