My rig is just shy of 5 yrs old. I have towed it about 70,000 miles and spent a lot of time in it. Both my dealer and the factory rep recommended NOT to get toppers and I did not. I have never swept the slides and I have never had anything get inside. It only takes a drop of water to freeze in the mechanism and the result is not pretty. I have seen that once.
It is like trucks what I got, I like YMMD

You know it's funny -- every time this subject comes up, people say their dealer recommended AGAINST slide toppers (my dealer said the same thing). Yet the people who have them, do not regret their decision (myself included) and repeatedly buy them again on new trailers. I wonder why most dealers (who usually will tell you anything to get the sale) are so out of touch with reality.

They proved to be excellent in my case. During the winter it kept ice and melting snow off the direct top of my slide outs. The snow/ice was up there for weeks on end. I'm very happy I opted to get them.

They do serve a good purpose but I like some others just don't like the flapping noise when it's windy. They do keep debris off the slideout roofs, but I've never had any problem with debris being there except when we park directly under the trees. In that case, I just get my telescoping ladder out, go up and sweep them off. No problem.
If I could be convinced of their worth, I might be inclined to get them.

Ken, the reason is to keep the cost down so you won't buy a unit down the street that is cheaper.
They will say the unit is loaded but it does not have toppers, dual pane windows, second air, gel coat, washer dryer and generator etc.

I have a 06 3000RK and did not have the toppers but do now as 1 good rain storm from the wrong direction and you have water and leaves, they had to remove our slides as they were low in the top center so the water puddeled at 1st so when they fixed that we put on the toppers

Hello Everyone,
Our dealer gave us a quote of $1460 for all three slides including installation. I'm not sure if that is a good deal or not (anyone have a clue if it is?), but think we will hold off a bit and see how it goes.
I am a light sleeper and hearing from what others have said about the noise, I'm not sure! We do not fulltime and therefore would not be in it enough to get used to it.
You have given a lot of food for thought here and appreciate it so much!
Happy Rving!

The advantage is keeping debris, ice, and snow off the top of the slides so you can retract them. The downside is flapping in the wind.
Remember, debris can be swept off. Snow has to be shoveled or pushed off. Ice may have to be chipped off. All of those on top of toppers just rolls off when the slides retract.
If you have little or none of these and are a very light sleeper, then in your case I would not buy the toppers.

Slide toppers...hmmm, had one on the Fleetwood. Yes, flaps in the breeze, I store under pines at stick house and became accustomed to its benefit. I now have two kits in the garage waiting for me to install on my Monty this spring. Cost was approax..$540.00 A&E toppers 72"/156" from CW and plan to do this myself, one on Bedroom slide and one on the Dinette slide.
Thanks, Chuck

Hi All I had toppers installed on my first monty for all the above reasons and LOVED them!!!
When we got the new 3295 I purposly waited to get down to Quartzsite to have my toppers installed Get this;$165.oo each topper----$65.00 each install 3 for $495.00 plus $195.00 for installing, which took from 10am til 6pm because each one had to be specially cut to fit.
they get some special deal in buying truckloads ofthese and they'the delux 8500's with the metal covering!! they do so many ,they're very good at it. If your going to Quartzsite this winter you cant beat GAMBLERS price Dave

Just purchased and installed Carefree toppers purchased from PPL Motorhome for $1005 delivered. Took me about 5 hours to install all 3. I placed the order on Thursday and they were delivered the following Wednesday.
