Difference in length & weights on 07 3400RL

We are seriously considering a new 07 3400RL. Love the floorplan, decor, fit finish, & decor. Length is a little long for us, but trying to cope with it.

Does anyone know why the 07 brochure states under specifications length is 37.3" 11,650 lbs empty. Keystone's Montana internet site states under specifications: 38.4", 11,800lbs. Why must it keep growing?

We bought a 06 2980RL, last year.

In the first four months it had 3 different weights & lengths on the Website. My guess, it is in the way the person ( that Knows the truth ) told the person that actually did the key punching. Anyways once your over the 30' mark, what difference is another 13" going to make.
3400 has a great layout, enjoy.

Glenski,

I wondered the same thing, but do not have a good answer. I wouldn't take either as fact. It would be more accurate to just measure one at the Dealer. As far as weight, the disclaimer says the weight is based on normally equipped with options, but I have no idea what options those are that they considered.

The length of our 3585SA reads 36'5 on the paper the dealer gave us. I measured it and it is 38'4" Sorry I cannot tell you why lengths and weights are reading so different. Maybe someone will come along and know the answer...I will be very interested to know too!

Has been an accepted fact that rigs never are the length of the brochures or web sites, and don't weigh what is stated either. This has been going on since whomever it was invented the round wheel instead of a square one.

Seriously, has always been true in this business, for as long as we can remember. Not that this makes it right, and have no idea why, it just is. SIGHHH

I pretty much agree, as big as these rigs are, that after 32' or so what is another 13", but also find it hard to believe there cannot be a standard rule of measure. Problem for us we started looking at 31' units, then 33, then 35 & now 38.4!

Our current travel trailer seemed huge on the outside compared to our prior Coleman pop up, once we got used to the travel trailer it seemed to shrink and seemed pretty managable. It just makes sense to me that Mfg's had a set standard amongst themselves on the length, doesn't seem to me that it could vary that much.

You gotta know we camp, not RV park it, so I need to fiqure this out, not saying we want to go up to all the remote tight spots that tenter's enjoy, but still don't want to be limited to asphalt lots. See quite a few big rigs though in many of our favorite spots, but just trying to weigh it all out. And, yes the comfort & large layouts factor in on these 5th wheels! Guess it is hard to have it all.

Glenski,

I understand your concerns. Just wait till you look at that rig parked, or even stand in front of it. Your once mighty big truck hides in the shadow of that monstrous Montana above it.

Keep in mind the slides coming out both sides in the rear on the 3400 as well. We came from a 2955RL where the slides only came out one side. I had a hard time adjusting to where I could fit with that one after our original TT. Now it will be even more limiting with slides coming out BOTH sides on our new 3400RL. I'll probably have to scratch a few more favorite spots off the list, primarily in the State Park areas.

I guess I'd rather worry about where to park it, than not have one to worry about!

The number in the Keystone spec means nothing..Or if it does mean someting it is a closely guarded secret Our 06 3400 is 39 feet 1 inch. Our Fleetwood Terry 29R was 32 feet 6 inches. The only way to know for sure is to take a tape measure to it. One thing you can be sure of, it is NOT 37.1 or 38.4. It is nice to know how long it really is as trying to stuff a spec stated 37.1 rig that is really 39.1 into a 37.1 spot can be a chore.

I boon dock a lot and my 3400 is 3 feet longer than my other unit was and so far that has not been a problem. When you get to this length what is a few feet.

My 2007 3400 is 39.6. I was asked by a CG mgr a few months ago how long my 5ver was. When I told him 39 ft 6 in, he winced. He said he only had one site available and it would only accomodate 38 ft. I said, "Although... the mfr states that this actually is 38 ft." He said great. I gave him my money. I fit...

Interesting that Dave S and Rich have the same unit but they are different lengths. Dave Sky's 04 3400 is the same length as our 05 but both are longer than Dave S. and Rich. I was told once the manufacture's length does not include the ladder or the king pin. We just say 40' and leave it at that. Too close to haggle.
Happy trails......................

We have the Mor Ryde king pin and I think that makes the difference in length. The extended king pin would add to the lenght..We too call it 40 feet just to be on the safe side.

We tell the CG people our 3400 is 40 ft.as well and let it go. When we go into pay for the RV tags and Lin. we just give the model number and they think that it is 34 ft. and that is what we pay registration fees on(by the foot). So for those of us that live in Idaho we don't want them to know how long it is, so please keep this to ourselves. Thanks.

When I was checking out the different floor plans on my Monty, I was limited to 36' due to the regulations at the private campground that I'm a seasonal at. The Keystone website had my 3475 at almost 38', while the brouchure has it at 36'8". I emailed Keystone, and their reply was that they "average" out the numbers. Well folks, your averaging almost cost you a sale!! I'm 8" over the rule as it is. I'm holding my breath that they assume it's in the 34' range due to the 3475 sticker. If not, I'll be looking for a new place to put my home this summer...LOL

Ours measures 39' 1" total length with the standard extended pinbox and ladder. I just tell the parks it's 39 feet. I figure an inch or two longer isn't going to make it not fit their sites.

Ours registers as a 34 footer. I guess because of the model number. So, Jan, in your situation I'd point to the model number. That's assuming it really will fit on the site.

I'm not sure what they're averaging. In a given run, surely there are not different lengths in a given model. I wonder what they meant.

When I asked a Keystone exec how they derive the model numbers since they don't seem to relate to actual length, they told me procedures require a model number assignment prior to getting approval to build the first. So they make an educated guess based on whatever criteria they use. I can understand that. Beyond that, I have no idea.
