Power Converter
2008 Montana 3400RL.
I found the converter under the stairs. It seems to be functional. If I unplug it the refrigerator and water pump will go off. It is not charging the battery though. Pulling only a 12.69 reading at the battery.
I was told to check the fuse on the converter first. Does anyone know where it is? Inside the converter or on the IOTA fuse panel?
I was given a quote by the dealership to replace the converter. Around $600.00, which seemed high to me.
Any information or guidance would be appreciated.
New to this site so don't have a profile signature yet.
Full timers, love the Montana 3400RL because it fits our home/work needs, pulling with a Ford 2006 350 diesel.

Sound like maybe your battery disconnect switch in your convenience center is turned off, isolating your battery from the coach and converter.

It would be most helpful to know the make and model of the converter. The water pump and fridge both need 12V to operate, if you unplug the converter and these do not work, then I would say it is working and producing 12V, there may be a poor connection from the converter to the battery or one of the battery terminals themselves, possible the ground.
The way you have stated your problem leads me to believe the battery and converter are not somehow connected at the moment. Check the voltage at the converter with the one of the battery terminals disconnected. It should be in the area of 13.4V
The price seems pretty high for basically a plug in converter that would only need the DC side re-connected.

2wanderers might have hit on the problem, since I never use my 12V disconnect I don't think about it. Check it first.

I checked the battery disconnect switch and it was in the OFF mode. I swear it has been since we bought this RV in August. I switched it to the ON mode and it is now getting a 13.19 reading.
The battery that came with the RV 'popped it's top' about two weeks ago and I replaced it with a new one. I can double check all the connections.
The battery disconnect switch is supposed to be in the ON mode? That sounds like the mode it should be in if you want the battery disconnected.

Now getting a 13.62 reading. Sounds like the battery disconnect switch might have been the problem. Ultimate test will be if the refrigerator switches to propane and stays on when shore power is disconnected.

The on/off refers to whether the power is flowing or not. It's confusing and if you look back some years you'll find my panicked thread on here when I couldn't get 12v stuff to work. That's what the forum is for. Have a great time in your Monty!

Yes it is confusing. The switch is called the "battery disconnect", so in the "on" position, the battery should be disconnected, right? Wrong. The battery is disconnected when the disconnect switch is "off". I double-check by trying the exterior light on the front of the camper (shore power unplugged).

That depends on who the Amish electrician was that day. That is the primary reason that I use the convenience center light to tell me whether the disconnect is connected or disconnected!! That and the fact that I am always confused and a light on and off is a lot easier to see than remembering what the on does and what the off does. It still seems backwards to me!!

Just an idea.... If you were handy, a small 12V LED indicator light wired to the switch would tell you for sure every time!!

Mine is in the convenience center. Red handle.
There is a 12 volt light in the convenience center, so if your not plugged in to AC you can determine the function of the switch by observing the light when you operate the disconnect.

Easy way to tell is if you can remove the key, the power isn't flowing. If the key doesn't come out you are good to go.
