Canada and Axles

My dealer was telling me today that Canada will only except a certain brake on the axle...Has anyone else heard or know of this?

Yes I have... If the ol' memory is correct, it is a 2 3/4" brake... Would have to do some double checking to verify that number, but that is the one that came right to mind...

News to Me.

I live in a small area up the coast from Vancouver, B.C. In our entire area of around 30K people there is two Montana's
Both are 2006 2980RL's ours is the older blue colors, the other one is the newer brown colors. Believe it or not we live 2 1/2 blocks apart.
How strange is that. Our unit was made for Canada, His unit was made for the U.S. when he brought his back to Canada, it had to be inspected for Canadian codes (what ever that means). No one ever changed anything and put some Canadian CSA decals on his unit.
I'm sure ours has the same axles, brakes and whatever as his does.

On edit; Dave may be right, I never got under and looked at the two trailers, But I am sure he didn't change his brakes.

John,
Sorry...Let me clarify. The brakes on all the Montana's are 2 3/4". Keystone could not use 3" brakes due to Canadian restrictions... And for the sake of cost savings, Keystone uses the 2 3/4" on all Montana's; U.S. and Canada.

Again, I am almost 98% sure the 2 3/4" is correct, but I can make a phone call if anyone would like me to double check my memory...

Thanks Dave,

Too bad they didn't use the 3" shoes. Brakes don't look very big for the job they have to do.

Montana Sky, ok that is what the dealer told me. He said that is why some of the stickers were not on units right. I was not aware that Keystone made the Montana for the U.S different than the ones made for Canada...I learn more each day. Thanks for the info.

I posted in more detail on this in another axle thread, but the bottom line is that in Canada, Dexter's "7000 lb" axle can only be rated for 6750 lbs.

Our trailer has a 6000 lb rated axle, with 7000 lb brakes, so yes, I think that trailers built to CSA Standards are a little different from ones built for the US market. In the factory, I also noticed there were two piles of propane bottles, one for the US, and one for Canada. I have no idea what the difference was, maybe just the approval agency.
