I'm still waiting for someone to be brave enough to admit they bought a louvered tailgate.

I don't know if it falls under the definition of louvered, but I am considering a 5th wheel tailgate so I don't have to lower the tailgate when hooking/unhooking.
|
Yep, that raising and lowering the tailgate just wears me out too!
|
It's not the raising and lowering, it's forgetting to do the raising and lowering!

How about slide on mirror extenders. Bought them with our first 5th wheel and never used them. Had a cover used it only once.

...might be a good deal if you got the biodegradable septic safe deodorized toilet paper to go with it!

Hubby bought a hammock on a frame that claimed to support 250#. Not so! He fell on the ground every time he tried to use it! It must have been a foreign scale that they used to set their 250# limit, more like 175#!

Robbie, what's the grit number on that paper? Or are you still using the diamond studded paper?

Hi We just got our rig and we bought the light weight pin stabilizer. I am an RN and maybe working nights and sleeping days. We tried it without the stabilizer and had bounce. So we got the stabilizer and I can sleep while hubby walks around. By the way what are JT'S? We did buy vent covers and aiconditioner covers. But have not bought the wheel cover and won't since you all posted they are not needed. We hope to be full timers by the end of summer for sure. Glad you all posted this. Love this forum

JTs refer to JT stabilizers that are permanently affixed to your rig, then when you level your RV you tighten these down and they prevent the sway, bounce and jostling around of the RV. They are way easier to use and eliminate the need for a King Pin stabilizer. Since they are attached to the RV frame you also don't have to worry about storage.
Here's a website about them:

I thought the pin stabilizer was the silliest thing until a friend here in the park bought a new Cameo with a washer/dryer in the upstairs bedroom. I gave the stabilizer to them and they are very appreciative as the 5er has stopped jumping when the dryer spins. Guess there really is a need for all this stuff if you just look hard enough!!!

A Lot of kidding about the louvered tailgate. In my former profession, we used a fifth wheel trailer - a lot. At the end of a long hot day in Texas, we went thru the usual motions of parking and unhooking, except for the fact that somebody jumped to step 6 ( shut the tailgate ) before doing step 5 ( drive away from the trailer ) . It happens !
You don't know how expensive a tailgate is till you need one !!!

JimnJulie - I hope you charge good rent or got a good price on the sale or your t-pod!
Zema (Sharon),
Look on the bottom of page 7 of this topic. I see you are new to the MOC. Do you know how to look at other pages for the same topic? (We are currently on page 8 and there are 10 posts per page) Look for the page numbers at the right top corner or the bottom left corner of the topic pages.
I explain the JTs a little bit and provide a link so you can check it out in detail. To save you some time I may as well put up the link again:
http://www.jtrv.com/our_products.html
NOTE: They are only for stabilizing your rig. For leveling you need something else - CHA-CHING!!!
Enjoy! Welcome to the MOC!

Art hit on something that needs to be cleared up. The proper spelling for RV's should be RV'$.

I have thought long and hard trying to come up with something that we bought and have never used. The only thing that comes to mind is the screw in the ground bases that bolt to the awning arms when you detach the bottom of the arms from the rig for setup. We have never detached the arms so these brand new anchors are still in the basement. I honestly believe that everything else that we bought, we have used but I may update the post if I see something this weekend in the basement. I am going to go visit the rig in mini-storage. It is lonely and feels forgotten. c'mon Spring!!!

I agree, the tripod I wasted $100 on, useless. I just installed the Winfield front stabilizers and IMHO well worth the $169 I paid, self installed in under an hour, no drilling or welding, just basic hand tools. They may not work as well as the JT's but they were much cheaper and got rid of the wobbles by about 80% with wheel chocks.
I have the V notch louvered tailgate, and told my neighbour it's not if you forget to put the tailgate down, it's when. He chuckled and said he wouldn't waste his money on one........well a year later, seeing his badly dented tailgate, he said DON'T say a word. $1000+ later, he had a V notch tailgate, and the new stock one safe in his garage.
