RV Hitch on rear of Mountaineer?
Just wondering if anyone has any experience with putting a rear receiver hitch on a 2010 326RLT Mountaineer? We had a hitch on our old Springdale to pull the ATV's and it worked great. Also to put a bike rack in when we are traveling.
Thanks

Do the Mountaineers not come with the slide out bike rack anymore?

No they don't come with it any more, anyway I would like to take my ATV trailer with me when I go. Just wondered if anyone ever has had one put on.
Thanks

We had a hitch made for our Mountaineer. It involved moving the bumper forward on the frame and adding some pieces. It has worked well for us.

Thanks, I have a guy coming over to look at mine to see if it can be done. The underbelly is covered completely to the back so he said he would have to take some of that down to check it out. I assume that the frame does run all the way to the back but who knows nowdays how they build those things.

Be aware that a non OEM-equipped receiver will most likely void your frame warranty. The forum has previously discussed this and I beleive there is a 200 pound limit. I don't know this to be fact and do not present it as such, but it is worthy of consideration. Of course, it still is your decision!!

If your underbelly is like ours (one piece), you'll have to cut it across the back. It was tucked up under the rear cap on ours. I just took a box knife, and sliced it across the back. I used a thin piece of 1/8" aluminum to bolt the corrugated panel back up.

We don't have a Mountaineer, however, we had a hitch installed at the MorRyde factory in Elkhart, IN. It is a fairly heavy duty affair with a 300 lb tongue weight and a 3,000 lb capacity. Of course, we only haul two bikes on it.

Ours hopefully will be used mostly to haul a ATV trailer and 2 ATV's but mostly for our bikes. Sounds like yours is a real nice one. That's what I am hoping for in mine.

Good advice, I would not tow anything other than a couple of bikes on the back of a Lippert frame. Re a later post, the capacity of the hitch is not an issue, the frame is the issue.

We were at the Great Plains Rally and Leach Camper Sales brought out a new Montana I think it was only off the line about 4 or 5 days, and it had a receiver hitch on it. Also if you watch the video on the Alpine they have the option for a receiver.

I believe that if the hitch is installed properly it really doesn't matter the type of frame as long as it is sturdy. I had a receiver on my other 5th wheel which was also a Keystone and never had any problems.

Thought I read on a previous similar post that the hitches on the back of the Keystone products are not intended to tow anything...they are intended to be accessory hitches???? Perhaps someone else can remember which post that might have fallen under.

Restez just make sure the hitch is installed and braced correctly and you should be fine. I have pulled mine for a couple of years with no trouble. It is up to you if you want to tow a trailer or not.JMHO

This is my 3rd Montana that I have had a hitch on pulling jetskis ... or my current little squirt boat. None have been over 2000# or over 120# tounge weight. I've not had any issues. In my opinon the bolt on hitch makes one heck of a crossbrace for the rear of the main frame. There's not much to the factory cross bracing under any of our Montanas ... as I've had the belly pan down a time or two. JIMHO

Thanks for your input, I totally agree with you that another brace across that back span won't hurt but help. The trailer I am pulling probably weighs 1500 lbs totally with a tongue weight well under 150lbs.
