Shocks....

Hello, I have a 2012 29' Montana Mountaineer. I want to put shocks on it as it is throwing things out of storage, microwave, fridge. Any one added shocks and if so, what is involved? Special kit? I am looking at the system at Joy Rider, featured in Trailer Life. Thank you for the info.

What speed do you prefer to drive? I keep it 65 or below and have never had a cabinet come open or anything out of place. BTW our 3585SA is a rear kitchen model. No shocks on it.

I'm like you, usually 60, never over 65. Had a turntable come out of the microwave, glass all over, had a small jar come off a fridge shelf and break the glass over the crisper. Pull the Montana with a one ton Dodge. Would hope to get a little info on putting shocks on the fifth wheel.

Come to Michigan. Our roads are so bad that 65 in spots will send you air born.

Tom, I hear that. We have some bad ones here in Washington State. To make it worse, i go to Mexico for a month in the Winter and drive the California freeways. Most of the damage to my contents has been done on Washington high ways. Still hoping to get some input on shocks on my Montana.

Everyone has their experiences, never had your issue in 19+ years of pulling an RV and one was a rear kitchen model. I don't know if fiver shocks really help as most are installed at such an angle(limited amount of space)that about all they really do is allow you to truthfully state that your RV has shocks on it. Shock absorbing pin boxes and air bags on your truck may be another avenue to pursue.

Put shocks on our last trailer- Jayco with rear kitchen. Had lots of things moving in cabinets and fridge. Shocks made little to no change. I put air bags on the truck and 5th Airborne pin box on the trailer and took care of the bounce and jarring. In my opinion shocks are no help on a 5th wheel.

We've been over some really rough secondary roads but never had anything but minor issues. We also don't go over 65 and usually no more than 60. We did have the micro open once, but that was the only time. Refer has never done that.

We velcro the doors shut and several have extra latches and can still have some minor problems. With roads as bad as we travel even IS isn't a guarantee.

I-69 and I-475 in the Flint area are nothing less than painful!

It might not be the roads or the speed in which you travel that is causing your problems. It may be the speed and smoothness at which you make turns. In a former career, I drove a tractor trailer loaded with beer. If took turns too quickly or jerky, and not a nice slow and smooth turn, you would have a trailer full of glass and beer leaking out the doors. Food for thought.

I ordered the Joy Ride system from Sonny Dismuke. If that doesn't do it,
I'll add Equa Flex. If that doesn't do and I'm still alive and camping,
I'll add an air ride pin box.

Ours has shocks on it, but the trip home from the dealer stuff was everywhere, dishes broke, frig looked like a giant picked it up and shook it etc.....yes my trailer does 70 mph sometimes but not that trip cause it still had Marathons on... lol lol ......but my SOB did not do that at 70 mph,,,,so I set about to set it up like it was set up. First I put LT tires on it and yes it did make a little difference, at least the frig stayed in one piece, Then I added the EZ Flex and Wa La all is well. I still have to Velcro the cabinet doors because the catch's are very weak, but everything else is fine and if you look it is a rear kitchen....

Just had the Joy Ride system reviewed in Trailer Life installed. Leaving the fourth of January for Mexico.
Will see if they help this Montana Mountaineer stop breaking glass. Sure as hell hope so, but have my doubts.
