Which road do you travel?

When y'all plot your route from to wherever, do you choose the most economical route ( avoiding scenic, winding, hilly areas ) or do you choose to challenge your tv? Because of escalating fuel costs, we are rethinking our trip routing procedures- We hate to travel the same routes over and over but that may become a necessity- Your opinions solicited with THANX in advance- Don

In the time that we have been RVing, we take the route that will get us to our destination(s) using the best highway(s) along the way if at all possible. I do like your approach about not taking the same highway/road all the time-but since the wife and I still work we are forced (most of the time) to take the most direct route, especially headed home.

We have always tried to take the red roads..(US Hwys)if possible but with the price of fuel lately and all the stop signs we have been using more and more Interstate Hwys. We do stop often and try to stay for about a week in new areas and then see the sights around there. We are full timers though and not in any hurry.

I always try and plan the route so that if I have any trouble and have to pull off the road, there will be someplace to pull off at. I will search out parts of the road on Google maps and get a bird’s eye view of the road and the area we are going to. This has been very helpful on previous trips. The technology we have today a person can virtually view the route in its entirety if desired. The gps is also a great help today. However sometimes it pays to view the area it routes you to travel ahead of time.
