Does anyone go to North Dakota?

We have noticed that on most of the "where we have been" maps, North Dakota is rarely visited. Maybe we should have a rally there so we could all "fill" this state in!!!!

You are sure right there. We picked up S.D. plus 3 other states this year and hoping to pick up Montana, N.D. in the next year or two.

Safe travels.

I just spent the last 9 months in Bismarck, ND for grad school. LOVED IT! The people are the nicest I have ever met, and the area is beautiful. Bismarck is right on the Missouri River and there are river walks, parks, historic sites (Lewis and Clark), Riverboat rides, etc. There is a great RV dealer there named Capital RV Sales and Service that I highly recommend. Lots of people have fifth wheels, campers, boats and jet skis.
Red River Valley over by Fargo is green and lush and just beautiful. Again, lots of lakes and outdoor recreating.
There is a portion of the black hills on interstate 94 between Montana and Medora. Also Teddy Roosevelt National Park is there.
Just a great place to visit. I live in Montana and love it, but I highly recommend visiting North Dakota.
Oh yeah, the bird hunting is awesome. Pheasants everywhere!

We originally planned to be in ND right now. We were going to go there after the birth of our newest granddaughter. First was to be a visit to RandomLine (Jim and Fredericka) in Aberdeen, SD, then on up to Roosevelt NP. We then were going to just roam the state without plans and slowly work our way to the rally in Indiana in September. But, other commitments caused us to forego those plans for this year. We still want to see ND but it will not be this year.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

I lived in North Dakota when I was real young, have not been back since. I was planning on taking I-90 through South Dakota to and from the fall rally. Now considering going through North Dakota on I-94 during the return trip. Hmmm, the options of the open road. =)

Montana Sky, we just came across 90 in July, watch out going around the windy city what a mess!! The construction is one big mess and I would swear those semis got awfully close. Not to mention stopping to pay tolls every time you drove 30 miles or less - they are working on an open toll system that will be nice when all is completed. Total tolls coming across to PA about $35. You have it right though with the option of the open road "everything is subject to change". LOL

Safe travels - see ya'll at the rally.

Lorraine,
Thank you for the heads up! I will be coming into Illinois on I-80 from Iowa. I try to stay out of the I-90 toll as long as possible. See you there!

We are in Billings, Montana now and will be heading for North Dakota in a couple of days. We have been in this state several times and always enjoy it. I-94 is our quick route and we ALWAYS stop in Medora for their Fork Fondue Dinner and Show. Love it. We love Teddy Roosevelt NP. Last year on our way home from Glacier NP we drove highway 2 all the way to Minnesota and enjoyed that very much. This time, we plan on picking up Hwy 12 soon after leaving Billings and taking that route across to Minnesota. It is so nice to have all these choices.

We've been through N. Dak several times. Our map shows the states we've slept in. We've just never had the occasion to spend a night there.

Dave, we are at the Yellowstone Park. I would never stay in Billings if my grandson didn't live here after what the KOA and Yellowstone did to and said about RV'ers but seeing Michael for a few days makes me overlook everything. That is a Grandma's prerogative.

We stayed on the parking lot of the Elks Club in Billings for a donation. But you have to be an Elks member to do that. It was dry camping (no hookups).

Thanks for the heads up Helen,
Sounds like I will just stick to my plan of Wal*Mart or the Flying J for the night in Billings.

Seeing as our map includes ND thought I better post. We stopped in Medora and the Teddy Roosevelt National Park on the way back from Alaska. Always had this picture of ND being cold. During the four days were there the temp was triple digits half of the time. Enjoyed our stay.

Dave and Carla, we're hoping to go to Medora and TRNP one of these days. Do you recall the park you were in and your thoughts about it? Also, did you like the NP? Thanks.

sreigle, We stayed at Red Trail Campground. $27/ night 24.30 with my Good Sam discount. Nothing special about cg. A guy walked up to the site and guided me backing in. Cable is $2 extra. Would stay there again. Be warned get groceries before you get to Medora. They have nothing but milk and bread in town. It is a 30 mile drive to Dickerson to find a grocery store.

TRNP is a nice park we traveled the tour route in the South section mid day with 103 temps so only saw a few bison. Neighbor in cg did it in the evening and saw lots of wild horses also. There is a campground in the park, but didn't go in so can't say what it is like. Had a nice tour of the cabin TR lived in when he was out here.

Cowboy museum in town and also a frenchman's 'cabin?' who started a cattle operation in town. If you are into golf definitely golf the local golf course. There are four holes in the bad lands and are just spectacular.

Hope this helps.
