Colorado Bound

Anyone know of any amazing places to stay in Colorado starting in April? Want to spend a month or so there if possible with the wife and two dogs. Full hookups and pull through a plus!

Thank you

We are going to Estes Park (near Denver) for five days this summer. We have friends who are in a campground all summer, and they did not recommend their campground due to difficult terrain. They recommended Elk Meadow Park instead, so we have a reservation there. I hope this helps.

You can also try the AllStays app. It tell you lots of info about each campground, all over Canada & U.S., and even has reviews. I use it a lot for trip planning.

WOW, that is a pretty broad question for such a large state with many beautiful attractions. One of our favorites for that early in the year would be: Cheyenne Mtn State Park. http://cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/pa...s/default.aspx
Many other beautiful places in the mountains but not sure how the weather might be so early in the spring.

What parts of Colorado do you want to see? That might help folks recommend places to stay. We lived along the front range 20 yrs ago before moving to TX. Any advice I could offer is way out of date. Another site with campground info is campgroundreviews.com - I use it a lot.

We have been to Colorado Springs and also the Durango area. This summer will be our first visit to the Denver area. I can recommend places in the areas we have been.

April is pretty early for Colorado. Kind of rules out a lot of 'cool' places. I am going for the month of June to get away from AZ heat, but I think some places have snow in May quite often. Good luck.

Colorado offers many really nice spots. It would be helpful to state the general area you would like to stay.

While in Colorado the Rocky Mountain National Park is a must see. It will take your breath away, at over 12000 feet. Like someone said stay in Estes Park.

Durango,Silverton,Lake City,Telluride are fantastic. We have been there four or five times. The alpine loop and Black Bear road are must do's. Rocky Mtn National Park is beautiful and a must see. Gunnison and CrippleCreek are scenic. April is going to be to early to do much in the high country. Wolf Creek pass will be open and there is a lot to do around Pagosa Springs and Durango.

I live near Durango; let me know if you plan to make it to the SW part of Colorado. I don't have much experience with RV parks around here; we mostly dry camp; but you will be too early in the season to do much of that in the high country.

A couple years ago we stayed at the KOA outside of Colorado Springs. You can do a lot from there, including Pike's Peak and Garden of the Gods.

We also stayed in the KOA just East of Durango. From there it's easy to wander to Silverton and Mesa Verde for the day. A note about that Durango KOA - they have some sites that are tough for big rigs (over 35 feet and a LB TV) as we found out, having to wait for the folks across from us to leave so we could pull through their site.

The 2018 Colorado Travel Guide showed up yesterday and is a great way to plan. Gotta remember that not all CO roads are for towed rigs. Order it on line

Last year we stayed a week at beautiful spot near Colorado Springs. Mountaindale Cabins and RV Resort is off the highway and very quiet. It's about 10 miles out of town but close enough to visit all the popular spots easily. Every morning we woke up to deer outside our rig. Sites are generous and the people there were wonderful. WiFi at the site we were in was awful and ATT phone reception was bad. I went to the office to see if we could do anything and they let me use their phone to check in with family. We were waiting for news of my niece having her baby, so we left the office number so they could contact us. Later that day a staff member came to our site with a golf cart and took me back to the office because my family was on the phone! My great nephew, Marshall, had arrived! The ladies in the office cheered and celebrated with me! They were wonderful! We plan on visiting again soon!
