Pigeon Forge, TN

We are looking at the possibility of a trip to the Pigeon Forge, TN area in late March of 2013. Any recommendations on things to see and do in that area? We have no problem with all-day excursions. We are looking at the River Plantation RV Park - the sites on the river side in particular. Have any of you stayed there and do you have any comments or suggestions for the best campsites? Are there other RV parks that you recommend? Thanks.

We were just there in site 114 last week...it is very nice campground and the river sites are large with lots of room in the rear between your rv and river....all backin sites ...but easy....River Plantation is the best campgrd we have stayed at in that area for sure...about 13 miles from gatlinburg but easy drive....I don't think you will regret staying there....all the sites are good but we surely like a river site the best....

Thanks for the reply sola123. In one of the pictures on River Plantation's website it looked like there was a stream flowing into the river and I bet the sites across from that are really nice. I hope we're lucky enough to get one of the riverside sites (if we choose to stay there). I just love the sound of a flowing stream.

We stayed there this past summer for two weeks. It is probably the best park around. There is so much to do around there, from going to the outlets to climbing in the Smokies. Even though the area is heavily congested with traffic, we are still going to go back. Enjoy your trip.

We go to the NC side of the GSNP every year and stay at Pride Resort near Waynesville. In addition to Gburg you might visit the Elk herd in GSNP Cataloochie valley. Also the Biltmore in Ashville . Blue ridge Parkway. No end to things to do and see. The colors alone are worth the trip. We will be there Oct. 17-24. . Larry

Whenever we visit Pigeon Forge, we stay at Eagles Nest on rte 321 on the south edge of town. This park is a Passport America park and you can stay for a week at half price. The drawback is they do not accept credit cards for PA, but then again, most all PA parks don't either. Visit www.campsave50percent.com to see their site. If you want to sign up, I'll send you my membership number as I get $10 off my next renewal for referring a new member.
There are also 3 other parks listed in Pigeon Forge, we just keep using the same one.

River Plantation is nice, in Sevierville. Our favorite in the area, where we generally stay, is Twin Creek RV Resort, in Gatlinburg, one of the nicest we have stayed at in all our travels.

We are going this Saturday, Oct. 6th thru the 11th. Staying at River Plantation Site 409 on the river. We usually stay at River Plantation, but have stayed at other parks also when in that area. It is a very nice park with easy access and very nice sites, I do recommend it. You will not have any problem finding plenty to do in this area. We usually go at least once a year for the past 32 years and are still finding new things to do.

We are going up next week. We always stay at Up The Creek Rv Park. It is about 3 miles out on Wear Valley rd. Very quiet and away from all city noise but still close to everything. No pool or bathhouse but a nice stream on both sides of the park.

When in the area, we have camped at the Newport KOA on a number of occasions. Not bad and not too far from Dollywood and other local attractions.

Be sure to go to Cades Cove and drive the 11 mile circle and starting with John Oliver's cabin stop at each pull-out/interest point. We park and ride our trikes, pack a lunch and make a day of it. I suggest purchasing a history of the cove, it will make a good read and the pioneers will come alive as you have walked in their paths.

What Recumbent said. Gail and I toured Cades Cove when we where in those mountains in September of 2010. We bought the history and guide and had a great time for most of the day.........until she realized we was in black bear country. Then, I couldn't hardly get her out of the truck. I knew there was black bear around but, wasn't going to say a word until us and some other tourists saw a sow and her cub behind one of the old farm steads. I looked around and she was gone......settin' in the truck out front of the house!!!

Just remember Dale you don't have to out run the bear just the slowest person in the group!! we were out there couple of wks ago and saw a sow eating close to the road and a ranger had to keep the folks back from her they were in the woods with her taking pics. Glad he made them move then I got some good ones LOL.

Thta's right Bobby. They specifically say to give all the wild life in the park room. To me, that means "STAY AWAY"!! As far as being the last one, for me I would be last but, that bear would still never be able to catch me. It would be slip-slidin' in my you know what!
