Satellite Dish Install
I am considering buying the Winegard TRAV'LER Dish 1000 multi-satellite antenna for the Montana. My question is, the brochure for my 2010 3400RL states that it is prewired and RG-6 satellite ready. Does this mean that there is already a cable installed in the roof for a permanently mounted rooftop dish or is it referring to the satellite connections in the convenience center? If there is no cable in the roof how do they connect to a rooftop unit and tie into the pre-installed cable? Thanks in advance for any input. Tim

No cable is present in the roof. If you are having it installed by an experienced person, they will find the easiest path from the roof to the convenience center and tie the satellite into the existing wiring (usually at the back of the convenience center or behind a basement wall). There should be no problem with a 3400 as they can come down through the bathroom wall or the shower wall or even behind the fridge.

When I had mine installed on my 2012 - 3402RL I did not want any additional holes made in my roof to bring the cables in so they were brought in at the vent stack between the kitchen and the entertainment center. On mine there are 4 wires, 3 cables and 1 wire for the GPS. There are limited spots to put the antenna so that it does not interfere with vents and so on as it rotates to find satellites and when it stows.
If you want pictures of mine send me an email and I will send you what mine looks like. As has been stated there are no pre-exitsting wires in the roof. My satellite was a condition of the original sale, love it and use it all the time.
Good luck

Thank you everyone for your replies. Edward I will be e-mailing you for some pics if you don't mind. Bingo, good idea about running cable behind the fridge. Tim

I'm with the others above. We had ours installed by a guy in Elkhart, IN who only did those type of installs for all the RV dealers in the area. Went easy when he did it. In our case he came down thru our front cabinet where the washer/dryer is located and caught the wiring there where our antenna booster and other connections are located.

I know many of you have a roof mounted dish and I reckon we all RV differently. For my style of Rving ... a roof mount would be worthless about 50% of the time. I do alot of lake camping and even with 50' of cable and a dish on a tripod it sometimes is quite a task to get a signal.

I agree with dieselguy, a roof mount would be useless for us. We too camp in many corp parks that are very shaded. It takes my DH about 5 minutes or less to set up our DirectTV satellite. We would have to carry two satellite dishes when we camped at these parks.

We have had an occasional problem, but it's rare. Our dish is installed on the front of the rig and the Corps and others usually clear the entrance to the sites enough to make it easy to back in. Thus we usually have line of site across the access road or straight over the length of the rig.

I carry a second dish and a tri-pod in case a tree is blocking our roof mounted dish. Most of the time we are ok with the roof one. If we are only going to be at a location for a day or 2 and trees are blocking us we just use the old fashion antenna and rough it!

I was going to ask if this could be done but you beat me to it! Thanks Scott. I thought that a portable unit would work if trees are blocking the roof mounted unit.

Tim,
I just installed a Winegard TRAV'LER Dish 1000 multi-satellite antenna. There is Sat hook up in the convenience center, I just connected the wires Sat wires to the back of jack, and you should have a jumper in where the main TV is on 2010 model years. Remove the jumper and one will be the Sat feed.
I have a carry out with stand I will be selling if you are interested, $300 + shipping.

If you have a satellite dish, and you are watching satellite TV, is it still consider "Camping?"
