If Ford were going to Cummins this summer and Dodge to Mercedes, that would be all over my Yahoo news automotive and truck sections. Nary a word anywhere other than right here, far as I've seen.

I wonder if this isn't old news -- Chrysler selling the large van / chassis vehicles (Sprinter I think they are called) which have the mercedes in them. Given that the cummins is already approved for 2010 standards, I don't see them jumping to another engine and having to worry about the EPA requirements for their 5500 and below. Then again, given today's economy and all, we could see some strange arrangements being made to maintain market / continue operations. Time will tell I guess.

If Ford is going to wait until 2011 to put the new engine in their trucks they will have a year with no engine. The agreement with International ends at the end of 2009.

Actually the new Ford Diesel is already being produced at the Chihuahua engine plant in Mexico.

I guess you Chevy guys are right. Better buy the Chevy because they will need the warranty. My Cummins has 242,000 miles on it and hasn't ever been touched. Just oil and fuel filter changes.
Sorry guys I just had to take a little poke at you!
The story about Dodge using the Mercedes engine is old. That was back when Daimler first bought them.
I just can't believe that one of the big 3 haven't used a Caterpillar engine. I think that would be a big selling point. More so than the Navistar.

Met a guy with a brand-new F-450 with a CAT engine in it. According to him, it's heaven. BUt, he repeated the news that it wouldn't be available any more. I must say, I drove Dodge, GMC and Ford before settling on the GMC. The Ford easily beat the others in driving feel. IMHO, of course! We settled on the GMC because it was the best blend for us and because we got a smokin' deal (at the time).
