Brake controller

Everybody always says to keep your controller adjusted properly so as not to overload the truck brakes. How do I know when it is adjusted correctly? I just had to have my truck rotors repaired. So i guess i had it wrong. I have a draw tight controller.

2002- F250 PSD 4x4 x-cab lariat
2004 -Montana 2955
