Thumbs down sHOWER door exploded

Went to put some stuff in the rig Friday morning and found that one of the 3 part shower door system had shattered. what a mess. It was the outside door of the three, the one with the latch to hold it still why traveling.

Anybody else ever have this happen to their riggs?

Luckley we are still under warranty and hopefully it will be covered.

We have seen several post of that happening on the forum. We are wondering what the circumstances were that might have caused this to happen . We have had 2 Montanas since 2006 and we are high end users travelling thousands of miles a year. We have never had that problem .

If, for some reason, it would not be covered under warranty by them saying you left it undone, go to a local glass dealer as the door can be replaced at a fraction of the cost than getting it from the dealer or Keystone.

That's how tempered glass breaks...a safety thing. I've been in the window business for 35 years and have seen a lot of tempered glass break. There are several reasons why it could break. Anywhere from a manufacturing defect that allows something sharp to remain in contact with the glass to just hitting it too hard with something while traveling and it eventually gave way. It could be the constant pulling on the attached travel catch. Too much stress at that point could do it. Or, heaven forbid, you forgot to latch it before your last travel.

Hard to say what got it. Fortunately you've got the warranty.

I can't see how warranty would cover this but it would be nice if they did. Possibly fixing it out of good will would be more like it. I've seen Keystone balk at fixing righteous warranty/quality issues. If operator error can be involved in any way, the reflex response to repairs is no.

Keystone warranty dpt. denied the claim for our shower door. Said owners manual states broken glass is not covered under warranty.

Their customer service reps felt so bad as to keystones decision that they are helping to pay for the new type shower door with a $150.00 stipend.

Bob, I guess that's better than nothing. As Golfmedik suggested going to a local glass dealer my save you a whole bunch of money and that $150 will go a long way with the glass dealer rather than going through your dealer.

I had a 6 foot sliding glass door go bad and decided I would break it. I needed some gravel under a concrete slab anyway. I hit it with a 16 ounce hammer. It bounced off so I hit it harder, bounced off again. This time I hit it as hard as I could and finally broke one piece of glass. I finally broke the second glass by holding the hammer with both hands after several tries. This was when I was fourty or so and in good shape. This glass is tough.

The latch for the shower door (3 Piece Door) has never been dependable so I opened the door completely and drilled a small hole through the top header piece and got a stainless pin to keep the doors from moving. Did a similar fix to the sliding closet door (which I could not snap with my arthritic hands) closed the doors and drilled a 1/4" hole through the bottom piece and put a piece of dowel rod in it to hold the doors in place. $2.50 for the stainless pin, nothing for the dowel as it was a piece of scrap which I shaped by chucking it in a drill and shaping it with sandpaper.

During travel last year and because of some very rough highway miles, we had the locking door latch/handle break into multiple pieces. I ordered a replacement handle from trekwood, and now in addition to using this latch/handle, bungie chord it in place so it doesn't happen again.

Had my door to shatter a few years ago. It was my fault. Door wasn't in frame square and I put too much pressure trying to adjust. As stated tempered glass breaks into a million pieces.
I got glass locally but problem is the glass was 3/16" and all I could find was 4mm which is about .030" thinner. I has to silicone it in to seal. The pattern of the glass is called niagara.

I had one of my 3 piece doors shatter while traveling. I had a local glass shop make a new panel and it ran approx. $300, I did the install. I now have a rod that I place in the frame to hold the door in the closed position while traveleing along with the latch. I am not sure if I forgot to latch the door or if the latch came loose but the rod is more secure and cheap compared to the replacement of the panel.

All it takes is a hit on an edge and it shatters very easy.

Shower door

my outer door shattered. I'm sure it was our fault for not latching it. I researched how to get it apart and was going to buy a sheet of clear plexiglass to repair it. DW talked me out of it and bought a shower curtain which is doing the job just fine so I don't know if I will ever get to fixing it now. I will devise something to keep the remaining 2 doors secure while traveling. Tooth fairies idea of a stainless pin may be just the thing.

We had the same thing happen while traveling, except it was the farthest door that broke. We have decided to go with a shower curtain. Just purchased the expandable shower rod (came in yesterday;s mail) and we will install it this coming week. It gives you more elbow room. Also much easier to clean. I think this will make us happy.

We ordered a different style shower door from Stoett ind. non glass with a pull out door. Should be here by the end of the week,

Already removed the old glass door and framing, and found out just what a shity job of caulking keystone did on instalation. Lots of fun removing the old caulk. Also found that their are long wood screws that hold the shower surround to the walls. three of them are sticking out of the wall and will not turn in flush to the surround. Will try and find some way to fix that during the week.

My shower door has had many issues since new! Two times it has locked up with the middle section stuck in the track due to top roller rivets coming completely apart and the last issue was the latch. The shower door latch is a pile of junk and not dependable. I also use a soft bungee cord to secure the doors while traveling. I sense it is just a matter of time when I'll have to replace the whole shower door.

I got tired of having issues with the glass doors. The Mrs. and I decided on a shower curtain. Had the doors out in a half-hour and the curtain up in 5 min. Best decision. The shower is much roomier and the shower curtain brightens that part of the camper!

Fishen, we had the same problem. A screw or rivet came loose in the middle shower door. Locked all 3 doors in the open position.
We use a twist tie on the POS latch to hold the doors closed while traveling.

I thought about replacing the doors with a curtain, but the shower lip (entry) is only a few inches high. I don't want shower water on the floor. Ya'll using the curtain have any problems with water hitting the floor?
