Ecstatic!!! Vonage actually DID overnight the new router. With great expectations, hook up. IT DIDN'T WORK!!! Curses and tin foil. Time to think...hard...hmmmmm.... Cable modem service is available with USB connection. Connected modem to computer with ethernet cable...no service. Hmmmm...has to be ethernet card in computer or in the modem or the enet cable connecting them. BUT WHICH ONE!!

Hooked up router per instructions (too old to worry about "guy' card). Enet cable connected computer to router and enet cable from router to modem. Observe...hmmm...muse... Indicator light shows the connection between router and computer is on. Indicator light for connection between moden and router is NOT on. Hmmm...switch cables...same result. Light dawns...WAHLA, it has to be the enet card in the modem. Must have different circuitry for USB and ethernet. USB works, but ethernet does not.

Called Cable provider and explained my logic ...THEY AGREED...tomorrow a new cable modem. Just proves that a blind hog can find an acorn now and then.

Sure enough, diagnosis confirmed. Have Vonage working. I can tell no difference than with the old service. Very clear, seamless transfer. IT WORKS!!!

LOL, it's hard not to laugh at your prose despite the problems, Stiles. It's nice you can have such a great sense of humor in the face of severe adversity. Glad to hear you got it working!

Great news. Here are your next two challenges.

1. Set up 911 to your local address.
2. Set up voice mail to deliver to your email.

Should provide for less of a challenge over setting it up!

With all of your troubleshooting, your guy card is safe. Glad to hear that you got it working. We had an e-machine that had a bad internal ethernet card. Since we used wireless, we were able to get by. Bought a PCMIA ethernet card and just realized I left it in the e-machine when the hard drive crashed and returned to Best Buy. Drat!! Computers, can't live with them, can't shoot them all.
