Tire valve stems

Iam replacing my OEM tires (Mission)with U.S. made tires.
Can anyone that has done this, tell me what type of metal valve stems they've used and where they purchased them. Iam buying the tires from Costco and need to bring metal stems with me,they don't carry them.
I know I need high pressure stems plus good quality.
All suggestions appreciated.

My first suggestion would be a tire dealer, if you can't find them there, try an automotive parts store like NAPA, Car Quest, Advance Auto Parts,......etc.

There are two kinds of metal stems, the ones that snap in like a standard valve stem, and the ones that have a hex nut holding them in place. I have had the best luck with the latter.

Thanks Lonnie for the reply,I just need to make sure Iam buying a good quality Valve stem. Good suggestion about the hex nut ,I'll keep that in mind,with the side stress these tires take, a snap in valve would never work. Is there a certain diameter valve these rims take?

I don’t know what your air pressure is, my Mountaineer tires hold 80 PSI and I had to replace the valve stems after two would not hold pressure, less then a year old. They used a high pressur metal one that is covered in rubber and snaps in like the low pressure ones do. I have not had a problem since they were all replaced. My son-in-laws Cardinal takes 110 lbs and uses a metal type with a nut on the outside. I looked at the Mountaineer and Montana specs and it looks like we use the same tires.

Jack: There are normally two sizes of valve stems (diameter) - I don't remember the exact size but they are like 1/2 and 5/8th; but you also need to check the size of the 'hole' where the stem comes out of on the wheel to insure that the metal hex nut will fit. When I had the metal stems put in mine I got the right size stems but the hex nut was too large -- they had to go with some type of 'custom' wheel stem.... Nothing is ever easy on these things it seems....
