Flying J and ULSD - Montana Owners Club

We note that the flying J website now list the stations that carry ULSD. When we first purchased this 08 Ford they did not have that listing. It would appear that ALL flying Truck stops carry ULSD. The pilot stations do not list ULSD fuel and we know from experience that ALL pilot stations do not carry ULSD. We are also advised, but can not verify it that ALL Circle K stations carry ULSD. All of the circle K stations that we have visited DO carry ULSD. We have had a problem in finding a station that we could fit into that had ULSD and travelling to Fla was a concern but there are plenty of Flying J's on our route down. We are ready to roll.

You have to look because not all the pumps carry ULSD on the truck side at FJ. It seems all the RV pumps do. In our last traveling experience, we found that Love's and Pilot in the North did not carry ULSD, but Petro, T/A, and FJ did.

Good advise Stiles.. we will watch for that. I usually send Helen out to scout the pumps for the proper fuel.It beats driving around in circles.

In our recent 8,000 mile trip we primarily used Flying J. The RV pumps were USLD and at the truck pumps we found that usually the far right island was USLD and had a large sign above them.

This was one of the reasons we installed a 40 Gal. Aux tank in the bed of the truck right after i got it. Its nice to by-pass States with high taxes and be able to run without worry of finding ULSD right now.
Rich, the Fly J's are about 110 miles apart all the way down I-65 and I-75 so you should not have a problem.

More good advise..thanks all.. We did get a fix on the flying J's on our route down and we will have no problem. We are considering the Aux fuel tank not because we want to do long runs as we stop every 3 hours or so anyway but because of the problem of hard to get into fuel stations and the availability of ULSD.. we shall see on this winter trip with the diesel???

The station that I get my fuel in Parker Az. has a sticker on it that points out that their diesel is not to be used in 07 and newer trucks. Pay attention if you are traveling in this area.

There is another thing I like about my 05 GMC, the fact that I do not have to be concerned about LSD and ULSD.
Me thinks I'll hang on to this one until someone says "Only ULSD to be sold to the motoring public" and all diesel pumps are therefore ULSD. Being from the old school I am in the habit of just grabbing the diesel nozzle and pumping away. There is no way I would remember to look for the ULSD tag first. And if I did look for ULSD and NOT find it I would be one POd camper.

With perfect hindsight I should have purchased a 07 Tv that does not require ULSD and it would not have been a Ford as I did not trust the 6.0L Diesel.To make matters worse I was looking at and nearly purchased a 07 Durimax that was offered at a very good price.This 08 Ford is great truck but as I drive it more we realized that the new emission standards have way more of a negative effect on performance than the information that we had access to indicated.. Even the 07's that use ULSD perform better than the 08"s because of the Non regeneration issues and other emission changes. But that's hindsite..We have a nice shinny new truck , it will do the job and do it well..

Truck stops of America (TA )also look good for ULSD fuel. I guess our local area is just short on ULSD stations.. Still many of the TA and Flying J stations direct us to the RV pumps which can still be hard to get in and out of. I was reminded by one of our Lions members who works for TA that they have a in progress project to make the TA stations more RV friendly.

Here`s the Flying J list. Most have ULSD. The first price is the ULSD. I fill up at home when going to Fla, then Walton KY, Resaca GA. Lake Park GA. Now when I go this Apr. to Key West I`ll have to find stations in Fla that carry ULSD beside Flying J along I-75
and in the Keys

This blanket statement some dealers put on their pumps causes confusion and is part of the problem. The 07 Chevy Classic burns either LSD or ULSD.
