Information on 2955rl and 2880rl

We have decided to purchase a 2955rl or 2880rl. We are looking for any input on the best years or problems that either of these units my have i need to stay at 34' or less because i will be pulling a boat behind so 75 foot max all togather. Thanks

We had an 04 2955 and loved it. It was way better built than our 16 3160. We would still have it but the cost of updating with leveling jacks, upholstry, roof, etc. was something we didn't want to do. But, it was well suited for adding a hitch. I hung a motorcycle on the back but certain it would have towed something not too heavy.

We bought a new 2007 3075RL, similar to the 2955RL. Has been as trouble free as we could have ever hoped for.

Some states have a 65’ limit.

I had a 2006 2980RL. I thought the extra slide made it much roomier than the 2955. Two issues with it - I had the 'infamous' frame flex. I beat it pretty hard including a trip to Alaska, tho. Had around 65,000 miles in 8 1/2 years on it.
The other issue (which is floorplan) was that when someone was in the recliner by the frig, you had to put your feet down if someone else wanted to get into the frig or stove area.
We now have a Mountaineer with an extra 4 feet in the living room - much roomier. Good luck.

I had a 2005 2955 for 7 years. After the initial, and usual, set of problems were resolved, it was fine. We had made numerous mods to enhance it capabilities and storage area. We traded it for a number of reasons. We wanted something slightly bigger for longer stays (of course we wound up with a 40' which is more than slightly), the manual jacks were getting difficult for me to use and Level-Up was the answer, and I was relegated to the recliner next to the door (and death step) which meant I had to move whenever someone entered/exited plus having to peer over the kitchen counter to see the relatively small (in today's standards) TV.

I HAVE a 2009 2955rl , purchased new in late 2008.We really love it as we can get into some of our favorite spots with the 2 slides. Where as apposing slides would make it impossible to get into them. No real major issues with our rig from purchase to now.The inflatable mattress had to be changed due to a leak and the TV in living room had to be changed out, but we caught that on the PDI and was taken care of prior to delivery. The Back flow valve for the black tank flush has failed twice. First time under warranty, second time this summer. The back flow valve has been an issue on most all models due to a very prone to fail cheap part.
Make sure the tires are are something better than the Goodyear Marathons as this was an issue on all the Montana trailers. Mine failed with about 8k miles on them.
You will need to upgrade the hitch to something to handle the towing of your boat. I had a hitch installed so I could flat tow my Jeep. Then installed a camera on rear of trailer to monitor Jeep when towing and for backing in to sites.
I feel my 5er was well built and it has served us really well as we have towed it throughout the western statesfor the last 10 years and will continue to for hopefully another 10.

We have a 2002 2880rl that we still enjoy. We just update and repair as necessary. Longer Montanas from this time period had frame flex issues that were more serious than the shorter 2955 and 2880, or 2980 trailers. Ours had a little flex in the 5th wheel overhang repaired by welding in some tabs and repairing broken welds after 15 years. We replaced the roof after 14 years. We still like the floor plan and the amount of space in this 30' camper.

We have our 2955 bought new in 2006. Still love it and basically problem free until a recent mystery leak. Looks like brand new except fading decals on one side.
