Slide Malfunction & Fix
For those of you with an older Monty, ours is a 2001, that have DeWald (now called Power Gear) slide mechanism/pump, this may apply to you. Our slide motor was working intermittently and then would continue to run for 2 to 5 seconds both when putting slides in and out. Bob called Power Gear and they immediately knew the problem was faulty solenoids. They sent new solenoids (not for free, of course), Bob installed them today and the slides work like new. He said they weren't hard to change, just hard to get at. It is so nice to have a "handy" man around the house!!

Glad to hear that you got your slide fixed. We had a problem before the rally in Reno and MIMF got ours working smoothly again. It's so nice when everything works.

That has got to be a great feeling when you are able to make your own repairs.

Bob n Pam,
I'm glad you were able to get the systems functioning normally! I'm just sorry you don't have our systems in your coach.
Judy,
I trust everything is still good? If not you know how to find me.
You all have a great day!
Dale

Dale, they are still working good. Of course, the slides haven't, and won't get much of a workout since we were at our stick house for six weeks and now we're parked in the RGV for two months. Hope to put them to a better test in the future.
Thanks for your great willingness to help.

Harleyrider, we do have the cable and pulley systems. Bob says the solenoids are located directly under and to the rear of the motor which drives the pump. There are two solenoids - the blue wire is connected to the "out" solenoid and the green wire is connected to the "in" solenoid. If you wind up with trouble in one direction, you only have to replace one of the solenoids. The phone number for Power Gear is 888.339.2537. Let us know if you need any other info.

I had this same problem in May of 2005 and was happy with the support from Power Gear. Check their website at www.powergearus.com where you can download service manuals for various components. I now carry a spare solenoid so it will probably never happen again. As I recall they cost about $35 each. As Bob N Pam said one controls "in" and the other "out", but they are identical units. If you have a problem with either one in the field, just reverse the wires to activate the slide in the appropriate direction.
