Tires (on trucks and trailers)
Just learned a lot about tires. Had two recent tire failures with Cooper Discovery A/T M&S E rated tires on my F-350 SRW 4WD Powerstroke (both on rear position, no trailer, carcass kept air, lost tread). Cooper was very fair with claim that was filed. Found out the culprit may be the 15 inch D rated trailer tires.
On advice of an expert, I upgraded to 16 inch wheels on trailer and then added 245/70/R16 E rated tires on trailer (5 in number, cost $1,000) and noticed great improvement.
Hope this helps others who tow heavy.
Next, I went out and upgraded truck tires to Michelin M&S E rated (not all E rated truck tires are made equal, even if the weight capacity is stamped on side wall. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH!!)
I have weighed this combination (truck and trailer) on CAT scales, so I know the exact weight of each axle. I now have sufficient safety margin at all corners.
