Lippert Levelor, Jack, or Tire Ramps?

Relatively new to the 5er community and weeks away from our first extended trip. Still collecting the necessary tools to maintain the unit and I'm curious if there's a typical way of raising the 5er to change a tire, or grease wheel bearing, etc. The Trailer-Aid Plus Tire Changing Ramp seems to be perhaps the easiest method but would appreciate feedback on what the standard procedure is if there is one. Much Thanks!

I use the level up system (hydraulic) to raise our Monty for service BUT I still use jack stands for SAFETY. Can't say about electric system though.

I too use my hydraulic level up system, but also carry a bottle jack and a couple of jack stands. You may need to change a tire on an uneven surface and the level up may not have enough travel to lift a low side wheel.

I have used my level up to remove all 4 tires for replacement rather pulling rig to tire store and to repack bearings, no problem. I do use jack stands for safety.

Lippert does not recommend using the Level-up system for tire changing but may of us do use it. I also carry a small hydraulic bottle jack with me and do know the correct place to place it so it does not bend the axle which you have to watch roadside services if they are called out of doing this. The correct place is to place the bottle jack under the "U" clamps and bracket on your axle next to the wheels not on the axle itself.

Went and got a Changing ramp. Haven't got to use it yet. Monty is in Summer storage (at dealer for warranty work). Will try it out (if) when they fix it.

You can use the Hydraulic level system to lift the RV. Lippert does not advise it. It has limits particularly side to side.I would suggest experimenting with the system and understanding its limits. On nice level ground it is not to bad. We trust road side service far more then the Level up system .

Trailer Aid Plus

Unfortunately, I know how to use these. Work on a fully loaded 3 horse trailer with Luling Quarters. Don't ask....haha

I can change a tire in 15 minutes. I would also highly recommend an extension lug wrench ( Walmart-$20)

i like the four way lug tools. get push-pull, and i belive better blance so as to not mess up your tire lugs.
yes to a proper rated jack stand.
NEVER get under anything that is not properly supported..and wheels are blocked.
and a 1/2 in thick of plywood ( under jack / stand) on dirt or not hard concrete.
bottle jack rated for more than your needs.

We specifically asked the dealership about using the leveling system and they about had a stroke...Said to use a jack and showed hubby where to place them.

I get the objections of certain businesses as to using the Level Up system to change a tire, but many owners camp set up and level on uneven ground with 2 wheels dangling in the air for days on end with no issue. L.I.A.B.I.L.I.T.Y. a word feared in today's world.

Back when TrailAir developed the Level-Up System they had a Poster on the wall of the Shop advertising the ability to use the system to change a tire, but once bought out by Lippert the Legal Eagles got involved and suddenly it was no longer to change a tire.
Use a little common sense and you'll be fine.

If you trust an bottle jack then why not the level-up.The level up has more than enough capacity to jack up the rv. Just be sure to use blocks under jack pads for stability and never obligate your body. Use enough blocks so as the jacks don't have to extend so far to have tires clear the ground. I've greased my wheel bearings raising all 4 wheels at a time on concrete and have fixed a flat twice using the level-up. Bottom line is don't get in a hurry and raise the tires just enough to do the job . Common sense can go a long way here.

Okay I got a good laugh on this one. It was a you gotta be kidding me laugh. Camper has been to Dealer twice now to check Lippert ground Control 3.0. You have to pre level the camper before using Auto-Level. You know putting your wheels on ramps and legos or blocks so the levelers are in the 8" of travel sweetspot, and it still only works 20% of the time. Brochure makes it sound like you do not need to use any of that. Granted this is for the hydraulic system, I am sure someone can find a similar brochure for the electric version.

There is a HUGE difference between the Hydraulic Level System and the Electric Ground Control System. Friends had the Ground Control 2.0 on their Jayco and would never get all the jacks touching the ground when leveling. In less than a year they ended up trading for an SOB with the Hydraulic System and haven't looked back.
We're on our third unit with Hydraulic and only one problem with a rear sensor, but system could still be leveled manually until the sensor was replaced.
