Leak Due To Bad Plumbing Practice

You would think that the great minds at Keystone/Montana would know the best way to connect small plastic tubing using compression fittings. But not so. I found the fitting leaking in the pantry where the valve turns of water to the icemaker. LG and Samsung both provide a factory fitting that will connect directly to a flare fitting on a shut-off valve. It runs 1/4" plastic tubing to the fill valve inlet. I'll bet an ice cream cone the clowns buggered it up while installing the reefer. Then some joker went down to Ace hardware and kluged it up. The plastic ones are real cheap at Ace hardware. Don't use brass ferules.

I have exactly the same problem on my 3791 (2018). Why not the brass ferules? Mine was not all the way on the tubing.

Plastic tubing requires plastic ferules. I always finger tight, turn water on tighten until drip stops. that keeps you from over tightening which is a problem with installing (Over tighten)

Plastic tubing should have an insert in the end of the tubing to prevent the tubing from collapsing.

Actually when using the plastic ferrules on the plastic tubing you can get away without using the insert because it will not tilt and crush the tubing. They might help if you tend to overly tighten. Those inserts may help if you use the brass ferrule on plastic tubing. Been working with icemaker hook up lines 40+ years. Finding the plastic ferrule is not always easy.

Hi

I have used brass ferules on plastic tubing many times and haven’t ever had a leak. I have repaired many copper tubes that the nut was tightened to tight using a brass ferule causing a leak.

You'd think they'd know better than put a screw through a water line, but they don't.
