I expect you are going to get a lot of different opinions about this and each and all based on personal experience. So let me begin . . .

We have always stayed in Spruce Lake Campground. Actually because we had friends that had always stayed there and we met them there in September--great time to be in Estes Park.

It is too expensive and too near your neighbors, but I don't think any of the private campgrounds are much different. The cost is based on location. We have never stayed inside the National Park.

Just one experience. I'm sure others will follow.

More information needed to give you assistance. Do you want full hookups? The campgrounds in the park are nice, but you will probably need advance reservations. If you are just wanting to stay in the park vicinity, you may want to look at Grand Lake on the west end of the park. There are several campgrounds on the way to Estes Park, also. If you absolutely need to stay in Estes, there are quite a few places.

We look at some possibilities for staying in and around Estes Park while traveling out west last summer. What we ended up doing was staying at a KOA in Cheyenne north of there for several days and then driving the truck down to Estes Park. With Ft. Collins and other stuff in that area it just seemed like we would be driving much of the time anyway. Of course, what we saved in CG fees we probably made up for in extra fuel usage.
