Waxing the Front Cap?

Like many on this forum I care about the appearance of my Monte. That means polishing and waxing which brings me to this question: how do most of you polish the upper section of the front cap? I’m reluctant to lean an aluminum ladder up against the cap because of the cap’s rounded front surface — good chance of scratching the gel coat once I start climbing and putting weight on the ladder. A tall step ladder won’t work because it keeps me more than arm’s length away from the top of the cap. I suppose it’s possible to apply wax to the top of the cap by reaching down from the roof but that’s risking a nasty fall. Anyone have a good solution? Maybe I’m missing something obvious in my old age.
