Oh dear, what do we do now .....

We noticed yesterday there was a bird's nest on the hitch of our fifth wheel This morning Chuck found that mama bird had layed an egg. She's proudly sitting there right now.

Next week we are heading for the rally in PA (early). Do we take her with us

What a dilema. Maybe by then they will be able to fly away. I think I would take them along. Don has had to block that area before because of bird and wasp nests, but only when we are someplace for the summer, when the next is vacated he gets rid of it. Judy

Most bird sit on the nest for 2 to 3 weeks and then the baby birds need another 3 weeks or so to fledge (generally the larger the bird the longer all of this takes). If the egg was literally layed yesterday I would suggest that you remove the nest right away before she lays more eggs. I can't imagine that a bird would stay on a nest that is going down the road and bouncing around at highway speeds.

I agree with BirdingRVer, dump the nest now while it is only one egg. Hopefully Mama bird can build another nest and still make the season.

Birds really seem to like it inside the hitch.I block mine with a soft foam but I still ended up with bees so when I'm done with them I'm going to take a can of spray foam to this aera and seal it off compleatly.

She's just laying on the hitch below the mirror. Looks like she's settled in for the long haul. Haven't seen her move in two days.
