Heating
What is the common practice for heating the rig without using a generator or the OEM heater? (My cell system will be under 500watts). Smart ideas?

A little vague. Are you driving down the road and want the rig warm when you get to your destination ? Are you boondocking ? Are you overnighting at a Walmart ? Are you plugged into shore power ? A bit more info may help in getting you some good answers.

The only thing I have heard about is using a portable propane heater certified for indoor use. This one uses D cell batteries when not connected to AC power for the fan and is supposed to be safe. https://www.northerntool.com/shop/to...7957_200307957

Heating
Bought one of these propane heaters today for the living area. The issue is the tanks. Perhaps I should buy a small one for the basement. Has anyone put heat tape around tanks for this? Could power loss be a problem?

I have friends that have the Big Buddy heaters and the large one does give off lots of heat and it doesn't take up much room. The only reason I don't have one is that there is no thermostat and you can't tie into your trailers propane system because it requires high pressure.

Yes you can tie it to your camper’s propane system. I tied my big buddy to my HC and installed a quick disconnect to the 3/8 copper line under the refrigerator. Big buddy even make a quick disconnect kit. Works great.

Took a look and they have an unregulated quick coupler connection. I wonder why they don't have a thermostat?

Heating
Was in a large local propane facility the other day and noticed heaters they had for sale (Crown $450). Asked about them and the guy behind the counter pointed to one in the corner they were using. I have a Big Buddy that is connected to my propane system and this may be even better for the future.

We have used our Kozy World catalytic heater for 10 years now. I have a 12ft hose and hook it to a five gal tank I place outside by the window. It has a thermostat and heats our trailer up really fast.

The camco olympian wave 6 runs off low pressure lp. It is probably one of the most efficient heaters out there. It will run without any electrical power so is good for boondocking and will run at very high elevations.

Since I’m full time living and stationary for another year and half due to military, I use two ceramic heaters. One in the kitchen area and one in the bedroom... it works well especially in Colorado winter.
Thank to those who posted abt the Big buddy!! That will be my next purchase once we starting being mobile!
