Painting Skirting?

From my signature, you can see that I have an older Montana. The bottom skirting is painted aluminum. Of course everything was painted colonial white those days. I want to paint the skirting a beige to match the decals and my truck. Has anyone ever painted the lower, 15 inches of aluminum on their Montana and is there any special things that I should do to prep and paint it? Thanks!

I'm sure you could paint it, but how about spray on bed liner? It is available in colors now and it would wear lots better.

Art, if you paint post pictures. I want to do the same. I have better than average HVLP spray equipment and my skirt looks dull.

I repainted my aluminum running boards on my truck. I had to use a etching primer made for aluminum. Worked great. Bought the primer at a big box store ( Menards). ( spray can)

Follow-up to painting Montana Skirting

I cleaned the skirting with an auto paint cleaner to get as much of the "dirt" off as i could.

I have finished two of the three coats in changing the color of the dirty, colonial white skirting on my 2003 Montana 3670RL. I decided to use Rustoleum enamel "brown"-hammered look because it matches one of the colors in my decals. My 1st coat was brushed on to obtain a thick sub-coat. My 2nd coat was rolled on with a high density roller. My (next) 3rd coat (and 4th if I need it) will be sprayed on for a consistent coating.
After the 2nd coat, as seen with the two attached pictures. it is difficult to see that it is not finished from a distance. I need the 3rd and possibly 4th spray-on coats to give a professional look.
Awaiting low humidity and sunshine, I hope to finish the sprayed coat(s) in the next week or so. If I have anything to add, I will add it then.

Final Follow-up on Skirt Painting Project

Well my friends, I finished placing the final coat on the fender skirts. The brown Rustoleum "hammered look" worked out very well for my Montana. I was stupid to try and spray the last coat on since I am NOT good at spray painting. After some research, I found that a 1/4" mohair nap, 9-inch roller ($5.00 from Lowes) and a synthetic bristle brush (for cutting in, fine tuning and over the fenders) worked out very well. The roller minimizes streaking and the hammer-look makes even the flaws look like they belong there.
I attached two close-up pictures and two side-view pictures so you could really get a sense of the look. I am very pleased (and so was the BOSS) on how it turned out.
Thanks for the support and good luck on your endeavors.
