Considering replacing Television

We are in the process of thinking about replacing our Viewsonic TV in our 3400RL. Any of you out there that have done this or considered doing so I would like to answer some questions. We are considering a 31.5" Sony Aquos # LCC3234U.
1) Have any of you cut your cabinet to allow for a larger TV?
2) Did the original metal mounting stand adapt to be used on new TV?
3) If not how did you secure new TV into hole?
I appreciate any help you can give us. Thanks Dave and Teresa

The best that I've seen for a larger TV was done by Bill and Helen Ademoll. Bill screwed/bolted a larger (deeper) piece of wood to the original slide and mounted the TV on the outside of the cabinet. I would have never noticed the wood if Bill had not brought it to my attention.
Maybe Bill will come on and explain it better. They are in the process of getting their Big Sky.

I cut my cabinet to make room for a 32". Added a support board and secured an articulating wall mount on the board and mounted the TV on it. then framed around the opening. Tv moves in or out of the cabinet. I place it against the mounting board and secure it with lashing straps when travelling. I posted pics some time back, you might check the archives for it.

Given how much the TV "rotating tray/slide" comes forward, I replaced the 27" Toshiba with a 26" Sanyo LCD from Walmart (that just fits width wise). The diagonal view/picture is the same and no woodwork modification was required.

However reusing two screws from the old Toshiba on the front of the base of the new LCD TV and rubber doorstop "clamps" on the rear of the LCD base did not suffice to prevent a tumble on a very rough stretch of I-10. So in the future I plan to bolt the base down to tray and lower the velcro straps to straddle it lower (more securely). The Subwoofer I relocated onto the tray also jumped off and its heavy. For that I'll try foam tape. Fortunately no harm was done to the TV.

TV Went from 68 to 13 lbs!

Good luck!

We just purchased a 32" LCD for the living room, and replaced the 19" tube TV in the bedroom with the 26" LCD from the living. Picture 1 show the 32" mounted above the fireplace. http://i41.tinypic.com/2ezkbib.jpg. Picture 2 shows the mounting brackets used inside the entertainment cabinet. I used wall shelves mounting brackets. http://i42.tinypic.com/24ywll0.jpg. Picture 3 shows the travel safety strap, just in case the brackets do not hold. The mounting system is very secure but just want to be safe. http://i39.tinypic.com/28alqmf.jpg. Picture B1 shows the 26" mounted in the bedroom. http://i39.tinypic.com/aes2hh.jpg. Picture B2 shows the 26" swung out in the viewing position. http://i42.tinypic.com/2d0xa2c.jpg. Picture B3 is a close up view of the 26" in the viewing position. http://i44.tinypic.com/9vi3jt.jpg .

Fire5er,

You didn't have to post full-sized pictures, you know!

So, now the LR tv does not pull out and swivel?

The TV never swiveled before so no need to have this one swivel. As you can see I don't know what I am doing when it comes to posting pictures here. I thought they were on 54kb.

Looks good to me I like what you did. You have the same year 3400RL we have, and ours dosen`t swivel.
Maybe we will try what you did, thanks for the pictures.

Zowie - nice job Fire5er. That's more TV surface than I have in the house!

When you are re-sizing them, look for the option to select the dimensions in pixels, most say that 800 pixels wide is good so everyone with small monitors can view without scrolling over. The overall file size, (say 54k) does not necessarily determine the dimensions of the picture. What software are you using to optimize the pics for posting?

BTW, I'm thinking about replacing the tube tv in the bedroom with an LCD unit myself, and your pics are helpful. I hadn't considered mounting to the front of the door, and was wondering how to fit one within the cut-out as most LCD's are wide format these days.

A peculiar consideration: I couldn't mount a TV in front of the cabinet for my obsolete 3670 floorplan without likely interfering with the Refrigerator Door Swing.

On our 07 3400, we do not have access to the rear of the TV through the CD storage door on the side. With that limitation, how to you get to the back of the TV, wires, AC power, etc. with the TV permanently bolted to the front??

On our 2007 3400 I just changed out the DVD-CD unit. Our Viewsonic flatscreen is also permanently bolted.
I was able to get to all wiring on th TV by sliding the CD storage draw all the way out. Not a lot of room, but it worked.

I did this with a 32" Samsung 1080I set a couple of years ago in our 3400RL different view:
Have replaced the surround sound with a good unit and mounted the speakers on top of the slide. Did that since the above picture was taken. Have tons of storage behind the tv, no picture of that however.

I did pretty much the same thing excav8tor did. Mrs Muddypaws made a quilted bag with microfiber insides which I place over the TV before strapping it down for travel.

The pictures are 'somewhere' on this site..................

LOL muddypaws.... see? I thought I was the only buffoon... exav8tor is NOT excav8tor.... - it's Ex-aviator or exav8tor, not excav8tor! I used to think the same until I saw a correction.

I like these retrofits for the televisions to LCDs. When you first look at it you'd first think by the time you add all the brackets, braces and mounting hardware you lose the weight gain you are trying to achieve, besides the technology increase. But glass television tubes definitely weigh more overall even after counting up the shoring up hardware when using an LCD.

This is on my list of things to do, but first I need to find the funds for LCDs, then I need to find a place to donate the glass tubes. In due time, in due time.

For mounting my LCD on the metal turntable tray, I just bolted it down using the existing screw holes in the tray and making holes in the provided LCD TV stand so that didn't add much weight! The 26" Sanyo LCD I bought last year for just under $400 at Wal-Mart is now $327 if my recent visit to Wally World recollection is correct.
Locally, the quarterly Electronic Recycling event charges $10 for taking old TVs.

Mor Ryde sells several TV stands for the flat screen TV's. Including a swivel base locking stand.

Good choice on the Sony. Had good luck so far with our Sony TV and DVD player in living room of 5er.

We have friends that put a new flat TV in their almost new Cedar Creek. Has the same floor plan as Montana 3400.
