Gas War

Well, two gas stations across from each other in Houston, TX, at the corner of FM-529 and Eldridge are having a gas war to attract the most business. The only price reported on the news was for regular. One station is selling for $2.49 a gallon, and the other station for $2.51.

That's about a $20 savings on an average size tank. Cars are lined up for a mile waiting to get in.

Hope it's a trend!!!!!

Bought diesel last night just outside Omaha on the way back from the farm and paid $4.299> Keep those prices on the downslide gang! I may get to go someplace yet with the Monte-- if I can get all the work done here and at the farm! Have to head to Ohio this weekend for a family memorial service for my uncle and will let you know what I see there! We're flying in and back in three days! If we had more time would have taken the Monte and said "Hi" to a few of the Mocr's along the way! I'll wave as I fly over if that's OK!

It better not, Ron. We still have over a $1.00 to go to get where the "un-colored" OUGHT to be.

Question: How many here actually think that if the price of oil dropped back to the same as it was last year at this time, that the price of gas and diesel would also drop back to the prices they were at this time last year?

Food for thought...

I don't think so! The greed is to high.

If the public would/could do something, it might! (maybe a Nation Wide strike on fuel for autos)

Edited: Just caught a glimpse of the diesel sign price and it was $3.7x. I could not see the last number.

We have definitely reduced our daily usage of oil here in the U.S. One of the national networks said that we have reduced our consumption by 800,000 barrels per day. Hopefully, prices will drop even further. I'm now doing the opposite of what I was doing, keeping a 3/4 empty tank instead of a full one as prices drop.

I would like to see a comparable historical chart up to the present time period as to the cost of fuel per barrel, compared to the cost of gas/diesel per gal. Does anyone know of such a chart? I bet it would be interesting to say the least.

Well, it's over! The priced dropped to $2.08, and at midnight both stsations closed as a normal process. The battle was between a Chevron and Shell station. The first to lower prices was the Chevron station that just opened up. They reduced their price on regular as a promotional stunt to attract business. The Shell station, not to be outdone, dropped their price on regular also. The battle then begun.

Both stations stated to the media that they were loosing money, but were hoping that the lower price would attract buyers who would go into the store and purchase snacks and other items. They did not indicate if that was working or not. The other two octanes stayed at their normal pricing, along with diesel.

This morning, regular was back to $3.33 a gallon.

The lowest I have seen diesel around here is $3.41.

Goes to show you just how much profit these gas stations are making! A lot of people are getting rich at our expense. If they can sell it for $2.08 and still make a little on it then why the $3.33+??
